...so why did you post your rant then? Obviously you have a scanner problem, while the majority of us don't. Custom Search on DMR Release 4 is WORKING on our scanners. Someone else posted they had to send it in for the same issue. What more would you like us to do for you? Thank you to Paul and the Uniden team.

So, I'm minding my own business and reporting to UNIDEN when I encounter a problem. Not a "rant", just a report of a problem.

You step in my CONSTRUCTIVE POST and get into my business telling me to set it to "ALL", which does't even exist, and proceed to tell me I'm wrong because IT WORKS FOR YOU.

Now you speak for "the majority of us", and "Custom Search on DMR Release 4 is WORKING on our scanners". Send it in? No real help at all. Just a stone thrower and company suckup.

Mind your own business, and stay out of mine.

OK, here is some weirdness on my 436 with RC4... (I actually originally noticed this and posted in the RC2 thread with RC2)

I have a DMR One Freq System set up for my local DMR HAM repeaters as follows:

FQK 10 = DMR
SQK 01 = VolNet DMR
DQK 01 = Site 1 Sevierville
DQK 02 = Site 2 Knoxville
DQK 11 = 15 Talkgroups (shared between both repeaters)
ID Search Mode is ON

When I have all the above QKs on, I see it operating normally. It alternates between the 2 Sites in ID Search Mode as expected. When either repeater is keyed, it stops on the correct TG and works as expected.

If I turn OFF either one of the Sites, I then see just the other Site that is enabled in ID search mode, which is what I would expect. If the repeater in this active Site is keyed, it stops on the correct TG and works as expected.

If I then hold on ANY of the TGs (by pressing CHAN and scrolling to one of the TGs), I see the Site display (just above the TG name I am holding on) still alternating between both Sites... even though one of the Site DQKs is OFF.

I thought it might just be a display issue so I ran one last test. While still holding on the TG, with 1 of the Sites disabled, I keyed the repeater of the disabled Site and immediately heard audio on the held TG... even though the Site was disabled.

Note: This also happens when in ID Scan mode. It also is the same on a CON system with more than 1 site.

Anyone else seeing this?

UNbug Report

I found the condition that caused the scanner to skip on search and work fine on hold. Since I use CLOSE CALL to exclude most everything on VHF and UHF but federal sub-bands, I set the BROADCAST filtering to exclude everything else in VHF and UHF bands believing it only worked on Close Call. Once the filtering was removed, it stopped on anything during Custom Search, including DMR. The clue was it didn't even stop on analog FM stuff, so I looked deep into my programming options.

I set these so long ago that I may not have remembered that Broadcast filtering worked not just on Close Call, but also Search.

I would prefer these two were not sharing the Broadcast filtering, and only Close Call was filtering, but at least I found what caused the condition.

So, no bug...sorry for the misunderstanding...carry on. :)

Egg on my face, so next time I'll look deeper before I report.

But thanks! These devices are intricate, to say the least. We may never stop discovering these things. Fun boxes, for sure. ;)

In the Sentinel software, when it comes to "Digital Threshold Mode", what's the difference between "Default", "Manual", and "Auto"? Default and Auto sound like it would be the same thing. If I change the level to something other than 8, does it matter what the Digital Threshold Mode is set to? (I changed all my levels for DMR from 8 to 5).

Hello All.

I want to try to install the Release Candidate 4 for my BCD536hp but I am having troubles. Could someone maybe please put up screen shots of the whole installation process. I could never get even RC 1 installed because Im not sure where to copy and paste the correct bin file. Ive tried to watch videos of it but they go too fast and for me its hard to stop them at just the right place.

Thanks Sheldon.

Here are the basic basic steps to copy and paste the bin file.
1. Insure the scanner is in USB Mass Storage mode.
2. Navigate to the BCDx36HP folder. You should see the firmware folder. Navigate to that.
3 Copy & Paste or Drag & Drop the file named BCD536HP_V1_11_14.bin
4. Power cycle the scanner.

If still having a problem, advise exactly on the problem

Hi Jeff,

No, it hears quite well on UHF. I discovered the problem. Search in that section of the UHF band was blocked by Broadcast filtering I set up for Close Call years ago. I didn't realize the filter blocked search ranges, as well as Close Call ranges, and observed it going through all the frequencies as though everything was fine...except it never stopped on anything. Once the Broadcast filter was removed for that range, everything received fine.

I found this new RC fixed the sensitivity on the selection knob for the 536. I can actually scroll through the menu again...... : )

I noticed this problem with RC3 (couldn't install RC4 yesterday), but since there was nothing in the notes for RC4 that it was addressed, I'm assuming it's still there:

On a conventional DMR frequency with RAS, my 436 was not displaying the talkgroup. It did display the color code/slot. I did manage to obtain the talkgroup using DSD+.

Thanks for the work on DMR. The addition of the DMR ID display when searching is excellent.

The majority of DMR and P25 users in my area are running conventional simplex/duplex with no trunking. Since you're adding unit ID support for DMR on conventional frequencies, could you also do the same for P25 frequencies? I understand that I can set up a "One Frequency Trunk", but this does not work well with the way I have the scanner programmed with all my QK's and FL's.

Other than that, DMR has been working great for me. Thanks for all the hard work.

You should feel lucky to have a good one. If the shoe was on the other foot I would not mock you. I would be on your side as you are the consumer. I personally never used the word completely. MINE is poor.

Ditto!

I'm really getting tired of the whining (if it's not an honest complaint/concern/misunderstanding) AND the mockery that's taken over this forum.

What is it about a computer that compels some people to write things they wouldn't dare say to someone else in person?

What's next . . . bullying? Let's see if we can't all be a little more patient and civil with each other.

It's called "keyboard courage" and it's existed since the dawn of dialup.

It will be resolved shortly after the Middle East conflict, religious differences, and which is better: Coke or Pepsi.

I'm at risk of violating the rule myself, but Rule Number One of forums is "don't feed the trolls." Don't respond, don't complain about them. Just. Do. Nothing.

In addition to some serious drinking, whilst camping today I spent some time Searching the area. I'm kind of a Search noob, relying 100% on the RRDB/HPDB. But the known underrepresented listing of DMR systems has made me curious.

In short, it was easy and I'll probably do it more, but I didn't get what I was hoping for.

I got a few CON hits, with Colour Code info, but zero audio. Happened on a few frequencies.

I've checked that Broadcast Screens are disabled, set the Digital Threshold level to Manual/5, set the Modulation to FM and got similar results.

I'm sure this has been brought up before (I've read, what, 8 threads of a hundred or so posts each since this adventure began?) but my recall is fuzzy. My hunch is that I'm locking onto the Control Channel? But I thought that was getting skipped during Search now?

Thanks for the continuous work on this DMR release. Everything is working pretty well here in East Tennessee with it so far. My only issue is the cap+ systems. My 436 still seems to struggle with monitoring/following the cap+ systems here. Two of them have limited traffic on them so I'm gonna be patient and have good hope. There is another cap+ public safety system local that I tried to use the LCN finder on the other day while driving through that city with no luck. Maybe it's something I'm missing too. I'll keep trying different things and get it right. Thanks again!!
