HI All!

I am new to the BCD536HP. I have the DMR upgrade. I have a list of DMR stations, people, company's, schools, and alike that are on DMR but when I punch them into Conventional to check them out I find nothing. Frustration is setting in. Anyone finding anything on the DMR systems? Did I waste $60.00? Help would be appreciated. I thank you all.

I don't believe you wasted your money, but hearing DMR takes more than just punching in the frequency.

Find a DMR station in your area listed in the RR database. Get it in your favorites list to listen to. Once confirmed and hearing it look at how its setup in sentinel. Apply to your data in a general way as it not likely to be a 1 for 1 translation, but a good starting point.

Good Luck,
Mike

You really have to use Sentinel to program DMR. Be careful to use the right mode. As I recall, I had to use DMR one-channel trunking for single-frequency entries. There's a lot of information on the 436 Yahoo group. Worth joining if you haven't already.

DMR Programming

Hi all!

Thanks for the responses. I program DMR frequencies in single or the multiple and get nothing. I do need a "DMR Programming for Dummies" I have to be doing something wrong. If I custom scan 450 -458 in my area (Colorado Springs) using ProScan I hear and see DMR channels but when I program them, nothing. It has to be me and the way I program them. I know Memorial Hospital and St Francis Hospital is Encrypted so that is a forget it. I just have to be doing it wrong!

Al, have you seen the Motorola amateur radio club's DMR page?
DMR-MARC Network
Along the right side, take a look at "Amateur Radio Guide to DMR." It has an excellent explanation of DMR that may help your understanding of programming. I've been a ham for 20 years and a scanner nut for over 50, and this guide was invaluable to me. There are other references as well that might help. Good luck from AZ!

I will look in to that. DMR has me confused, I may just be slow on the up take. I program in the data and the radio scans but I get nada!

Thanks.

Al,
The Denver Zoo is in the Sentinel database. Take a look at how its organized on the computer and compare to how you have done it in the radio.

I have a sense you are only using the radio front panel. I use the analogy that front panel programming is like looking into the radio thru a very small window. Doing the same thing on a computer is looking thru the living room window. You see relationships in the big picture that don't show in the small window.

I do give credit for learning front panel programming. Something I am not good at because I always use the computer for my scanners and amateur radios. However DMR programing raises the bar and doing it from the computer or by the computer are steps to help you to do it from the front panel.

Good Luck,
Mike

DMR Hum-bug

HI MCSCANNER!

Well I picked the Denver zoo just to get a Idea of how to punch in the system. I use Sentinel to put it in. I have had no luck receiving any of the DMR stations, even those in Sentinel. It could be that I am out of range? I use a RadioShack Discone antenna on the radio. All other (P25,FM, AM and a like) come in very strong. University of Colorado Medical at Colorado Springs should be with in range, but nada there ether. Thank you for the response it is appreciated very much. I am in the learning phase or DMR, you know the frustrating part.

Thank You!

Question, again

Hi all!

In my efforts to figure out the BCD536HP, does anyone know if TRUNK DESCOVERY work with DMR?

DMR I got it, maybe

Hi all!

Well I have been playing with DMR for about a week or so now, I think I got it. First what I do is put the freq. into Conventional get the info (UID, CC etc.) then move it into MotoTRBO Trunk. That seams to work so far. DMR has kicked my butt!
Any other IDEAS welcome.

Dongle Analyzer

From what I'm understanding, many DMR systems have been analyzed, correctly, using computer dongles setups. Since I am also learning, I wanted to steer you in the right direction. I gave up using the 436HP.

This can get complicated. So, I am sending this video to illustrate possible places to buy this equipment. There are some U.S. companies that sell this setup. Reportedly, it is relatively inexpensive:

Thanks

HI Ensnared!

I have looked at the video, good info. I do have 2 dongles and a SDRPlay. I also have a number of scanners. I like the scanners for their mobility and ease of use. But the DMR has kicked my butt. I am learning the hard way, as always. It seems that not many people are informed about DMR and how to program and discover which type of DMR to use. It for me is trial and error, mostly error. But I keep plugging away at it.

Thanks again.

Denver Zoo might be problematic just because of how it is listed in the RRDB.

In the RRDB the talkgroups (except for two) are listed as D (digital) instead of T (TDMA). They should all be listed as T since it's a DMR system. Of course, that may only affect what you see on the page, and may not affect how Uniden parses the data when they fetch it from RR to put into Sentinel updates.

A CO admin should probably try and clean that up.

Yes, I am crawling in my infancy of understanding DMR. I believe that some of the information for "some" DMR systems is incorrect. The Whistler and Uniden models treat DMR differently. From my understanding, Whistler does not require a ordering of the frequencies like various EDACS systems. Hence, downloading this information proved useless for my Uniden.

I noticed this when I visited the Winstar Casino in Oklahoma. I believe the first submission was made with a Whistler. It has been corrected; however, I have not sampled it to determine if my radio tracks. As I stated, Whistler radios don't follow DMR conversations like Uniden. We are all learning. The SDR us yet another steep learning curve for this listener.
