I finally read my manual to my new Whistler ws1065 scanner, it talks about connecting to a computer for updates. Do I need to do this?, if so how often? I only have local channels and keep them checked online to be sure codes are the same from time to time and so far it is doing great. This is my first digital scanner and never had one that said it needed updated. Thanks for any help

When you turn the scanner on and the welcome screen comes on press 3. If the uP Appl Ver is U2.9 then you have the latest firmware.

boomer9226, do you mean database updates or firmware updates? Both require you to connect to a computer.

The database updates occur weekly (most of the time), but if you don't change what you are listening to besides your local agencies, you may not have to do that very often.

Thanks everyone, my version says uP Appl Ver is U2.9. So I guess everything is good, I just like listening to my local county and the one county next to me since I am just 1/2 mile from that county. I have the cable to update if ever needed, just didn't know how to check to see if I need to.
thanks again.
