Do the new models still use the old discriminator tap method for P25

996xt is not so good with LSM simulcast P25 mainly due to its use of tapping the FM discriminator tap to try and demodulate the digital signal instead of grabbing it out of the actual baseband and then sending it to the dsp.

Did they get rid of that middle layer.?

I can't say for sure but, my 996XT far out performs my 536HP when it comes to P25, at least in my area and IMO it does. I think the 996XT sounds way better doing P25. I wish it did Phase II. That is the only short fall for me with the 996XT now.

Well looks like I found my answer, unfortunately it still uses the fm audio discriminator kludge. I am surprised they did that even with the new model.
