Do you ever just turn your scanner off because you are tired of listening? Whether is be because of a certain dispatcher or just the constant yack yack yack on the radio? I find myself doing this more and more often, for both reasons. Police radio traffic filled with nothing but traffic stops, traffic stops, traffic stops just drives me nuts. (Could be because I hear it 8 hrs a day at work and their is rarely anything interesting about it) And then there are dispatchers with a tone of voice, (or dispatching style ten-fo good buddy) that I just cannot tolerate.

Granted 9 out of 10 times, the minute I turn it off, I hear sirens and wonder what I missed...lol.

Do you ever just say "enuf" and turn it off?

Just an early morning ramble,
Dave

yes, or i switch to just one channel locally. Even for us professionals, listening to multiple channels and trying to decipher who said what can be a pain to the butt.

That's why you put certain things (like police) in banks you can keep off and only turn on if needed.

If it's worth listening to, it'll be dispatched on the fire side anyways.

That "ten fo good buddy" stuff shouldn't be tollerated. I even heard one officer I know telling him to "cut out that CB talk, we are supposed to be professionals!"

One day my "trunking" wasn't working on the pro-94. I couldn't get to switch over to id instead of conventional. Anyway I was hearing the bus driver with the school kids, garbage men, meter readers. I had to just turn it off. I got my PD, FD and EMS all in their own bank just for that reason.

Dave, I empathize with you. Even listening to sleepy Pleasant Grove, and/or Hueytown, can get old. I sometimes switch to air, ham or something else, if I want to hear something. But there are times, the radios just get turned off, or turned down so the software can log calls.

I certainly get tired of listening from time to time. No matter how bad it gets, though, I never turn of Birmingham Fire (if my scanner is on). There are one or two that I just refuse to listen to... even for my website. If something happens there, I'll just have to miss it. I won't name them, though. :)

I get aggravated at Hueytown constantly blabbering about traffic stops and turn them off very often. PG and FF as Well as Midfield always stay off. No offense but I have never listened to B'ham PD much because of so much radio traffic and I don't listen to BFRS because I heard it enough when I dispatched for them and yes even Jeff. Co. can get a little too gabby at times and they get the old lockout. So I go into "Selective Listening Mode" often.

Well, correcting the dispatcher over the radio like that isn't professional either. Thats what phones are for. I used to listen to Bham PD on the old 460.xxx channels when driving thru town. I would hear officers and dispatchers getting into it with each other and stuff on the radio. I know up here, that would get you written up pretty quick!

If I turn them off I will surely miss something....Always at least one playn in the background. We are in a hobby were selective hearing works great, Just ask your better half or kids, Im sure they would agree. And you have to have em in the ole Man cave. I still like how when something big is going on they all gather around the scanners, kinda like in the early days of radio..........Hoser

I used to have my scanner beside me 24/7, but now I just leave it in my car. The only time I'll turn it on is when something real good is happening.

I put one unit on local PD and another scanning the fire banks. If somthing comes up i can use another to lock in on it. When I just want to lock in I go to either Bham Fire, Walker or Blount Co 911 Fire
