I always carry one of my radio either the BCD396T or the Pro-106. When I go in long trips I take the two scanners plus the AOR AR-8000 with me. There on 24/7 even if i'm not at home.

I don't leave home without one, and acquired a Uniden Bearcat BC72XLT for the purpose of lightweight carrying. Plenty suitable, though I'll probably get a trunking scanner at some point for use in some surrounding areas.

Usually am carrying something

The PSR-500 usually goes with me everywhere except inside stores and church as its a one box picks up all device. However for higher profile use its either the XTS2500,MTX8000, Kenwood TK-2170 (VHF Only Needs) or the FT-60 based on the mood of the day and do I really need to be able to talk.

In Walmart its the XTS2500.. too many thugs and gangs waking around and I really believe has served as a possible deterrent to personal "harrassment" One night as I was leaving a group was watching people close and it was obvious. i eased the volume up on the local police. about 30 minutes later someone was robbed in the parking lot. I was still shocked they were actually looking for someone to hit as I thought it might be a game..

Always want to be able to find out whats going on regardless if its on or not!

HomePatrol great for mobile use

I almost always take my new Uniden HomePatrol with me in the car. I installed a GPS which makes the HomePatrol auto-select the frequencies for the area I'm in rather than it continually scanning freqs which are outside the area I can actually receive as I travel. Admittedly there are still certain limitations but it's been great fun doing it this way in the few weeks I've owned this little thing.

Now if they'd only get the darned mobile RAM mount out on the market... Been months since it was announced but still none to be had.

The scanner isn't allowed out without you? Not a very trusting relationship. :)

I am lucky enough to work for a company that does not mind
me bringing my "toys" into work. I usually bring both my 396XT
and my HomePatrol HP-1 both into the job each day.

I figure I pay more for my education than I did for my scanner, so I'll listen to the professor.

Once I'm done with school for the day, the radio is back on. :)

Have listened to police calls for over 50 years......back to before there were scanners.........never leave home without my pro106 or my wife's pro106.............or at least one of our V X 7R's ham handhelds. I would echo the comments about NOT showing up at the scene........not a good idea on regular basis. Hams are allowed to carry handhelds in Indiana, a nice thing , so I don't get on the way of folks trying to do their jobs, but is it nice when you are out and about and see lights and sirens.........you already know where they are going and what they are doing.

Happy Scanning,
