Does anybody else not like TG 91 on Brandmeister?

Let's be honest, TG 91 is nothing but frequent silent keyups, blasting audio, low audio, cutouts, dropoffs, and a continuous QSO logging contest. I'm moving on from TG 91. I mean do people even check and adjust their radio settings? Apparently not. TG 91 is full of garbage.

I must also say that the DMR networks, in general, have much more of the above issues versus the other digital modes/networks such as D-STAR, YSF, and NXDN.

I really like DMR, but only use the local Talkgroup and the Statewide Talkgroup. I never get on 91 or any wide area Talkgroups.

Also my radios don't have the complete DMR user database in threm. I only enter the id's of people I talk with on regular basis.

I really dislike System Fusion, as the local repeater with this mode goes 24/7 with endless talk from people out of the area hogging the repeater/system for hours with dumb comments and discussions.

People on DMR really need to learn how to use the Parrot Talkgroup to test their audio to be able to set it correctly.

Wouldn't know never been on it. Like @hill said, I don't have a user base in my radios other than a few local guys, I only use simplex or rarely my local repeater and only use 3 talk groups other than local 9 which is repeater only. None are beyond state wide.

Not to mention the audio/voice sounds like robots. I was intrigued by the concept at first. But listening to an endless stream of robots exchanging call signs got old very quickly.

All of the DMR Systems at my location have timed talkgroups. To listen to a TG a radio has to be keyed every 15 minutes or the repeater controller drops its traffic. Otherwise your local repeater would not be local.

Agree, dont use DMR at all any more, got tired of constantly having to turn the volume up and down, and when DRM is used in cross mode to D-Star or YSF the audio is even worse,

I put TG91 into a static slot while benching a MMDVM project. Timed out the repeater back to back. The users have no concept of life out side of their hotspots.

It is about to be blocked on the clubs main Brandmeister Account, as people around the area bring it up, for hours on end and burn through the 4g modem data at the site in the first 2 weeks of a billing cycle.


Its a shame Brandmeister took away the ability for sysops to black list users and TG's locally.

This is exactly right, and personally the cross mode stuff usually sounds horrible. Take two properly lined up DMR radios, talk simplex and see how it sounds. We use 900 MHz DMR on the ham band and I almost hate going back to analog.

I guess I should expect a variety of audio conditions with TG 91. After all, it is a world wide talkgroup. My wife also kind of put me in my place by stating that some Hams from around the world are from poorer countries and may not be able to afford top-of-the-line equipment "like you can" here in the U.S. I'm sure there is some truth to her comments.

Anyway, I'm still enjoying the digital modes. I have a couple of DMR repeaters that I can hit in my area, and I do ocassionally use them, especially for a couple of local nets. Though, to be honest, I enjoy using my SharkRF Openspot4 and m1ke for most of my digital activity, and that also keeps my local digital repeaters freed up.

Lastly, I'm also enjoying AllStarLink, though I only have one area repeater that has ASL, and I can barely hit that repeater only about 50% of the time. Though the m1ke is awesome on ASL! I also just ordered the HotSpot Radio ASL USB Duplex Repeater in which I'm looking forward to using!

I ended up removing TG 91 outta all my radios cause it is so busy, I cant use my radio till theres a few seconds of dead air. Then I can key up on the TG of my choice.

It also sucks that you MUST connect to Brandmeister as a peer, and lose RDAC amongst other useful things, like controlling your repeater or being able to have a regional network tied in on one time slot only.

Most of my DMR or C4FM traffic is Simplex local, unless I go to 3100.

Something that would greatly improve the DMR system all over, not just TG:91, is an
on and off button. Or at the least, a server side mute button. Having Radio 4000 is fine in concept. But failing miserably in
practice. If it requires a break in traffic, needed in order to deploy it - and the chatter-
bugs on channel never come up for a breath of fresh air - how ya gonna use 4000?
The answer, YOU CANNOT USE IT. Or, you have to be lightening fast under common
circumstances to react to the break, quickly push the keys, and count on the system
being able to move into action in milliseconds.

Does anyone like TG91?

I mean it can be entertaining at times, bad language and all, but it’s just people who have no idea how to set their stuff up, and people calling for radio checks even though there’s another talk group specifically for that.

The nets are full of people calling CQ before even listening for a few seconds to see if it’s clear. Lots of keyups, people having their mic gain at negative one million, followed by someone shouting into their microphone with gain maxed out. RX audio leveling only makes it somewhat more listenable.

If you want to know the worst behavior of radio amateurs it’s a pretty good place to go.

Amen to the three first points. Myself, I don't care about anything other than local stuff on 2M and 440. There seems to be such a burning desire lately for digital repeater owners to include every talkgroup they possibly can.

Even on analog. Having half a dozen reflectors on 24/7. Why?

I don't care for 91 either. It's too congested (obviously as it's a WW TG), and as mentioned, the fools who crossmode into it with 200% louder audio than the rest just make it unbearable. Cross-moding ham radio digital modes has absolutely ruined things. I guess I see now why Yaesu locked down the Wires-X ecosystem. They knew what was going to happen before it happened.

Gave up on dmr for the second and last time two years ago. Was one of the early users here in Georgia. It is a mess now.
