I was just trying to get some input on an R75. If anybody has one, do you get good reception on it? Right now I have a Yatchboy 400pe, I just bought it to see how I would like the HF world. I think it would be a lot more interesting with a better reciever. What is the lowest price that you guys have seen these radios go for? I saw one for $459 at Communications Electronics Inc. If you have any advice on HF antennas, please reply to my post in the antenna forum titled "HF Antenna" Thanks for the help guys!

Considering the number of posts on this forum about the R75 in one form or another, I think it's a safe bet is a very popular rx, more so now that it's been discontinued. I would also tend to bet there are lots of folks on the WUN group using it, and here's a Yahoo group - very busy, from the looks of it - devoted to the radio....

I own an Icom R75, and I am VERY pleased with the radio. I listen mostly to HF aircraft transmissions, and the DSP on the radio is excellent at killing the noise surrounding weak transmissions...a lot of times it's made the difference between hearing a station or hearing just the static. My antenna? The el cheapo Radio Shack fifty foot random wire, fed with the insulated wire that comes with the antenna. With this set up, I routinely hear...Shanwick(Shannon, Ireland), New York, Gander, Iceland Radio, Dakar, Tripoli, Algiers, San Francisco, Auckland and Sydney.

I also own a Drake R8, and an FRG 100...the Drake has excellent audio quality, geared more to international broadcast. The FRG100 is OK, a good knockaround receiver, also more geared to international broadcast. If the R75 you're looking at includes the UT106, grab it.

Hi Mike...I'm not so sure the R75 has been discontinued. Universal doesn't have that little blurb up anymore, and Icom still has the rig on their website. I don't think they know what they're going to do yet... :D

I sit corrected (basically because I'n sitting at the moment :D ) What I should have said - and it's been broadcast rather widely - is that the R75 is out of production. You're right, both Universal and AES still have it on their websites. Bottom line - if you want one, grab one....73s Mike
