Hi, I'm new to the forums and to scanning in New Hanover County. I live in Carolina Beach and was mainly interested in the pd, fire and ems in the area, including Kure Beach and possibly the air force base here. I've imported all the data for New Hanover county from radioreference into free scan and hear plenty of chatter but there are a lot of ids that aren't part of a talk group but I know they are CB/Kure Beach. I'm just curious if anyone has any updated info about the talkgroups that they use around here. Thanks in advance. I'm using a BCD-396t btw. Also I'd like to learn any other frequencies that are used around here but not really listed, i.e, wildlife fisheries, seatow, the coast guard. Thanks again.

Seatow uses a marine band frequency and the USCG is P25 VHF. I have them I just don't have them with me,but I will look at my radio codeplugs for that area.

Here's some I can think of ,

Carolina beach state park uses 159.420 131.8

USCG 113 163.1375 293NAC P25 digital (I keep 112 & 114 in my radio as well)

CB/KB PD uses TG 33290 in my most recent trips.

CB lifeguards TG33293

I go several times a year to that area and the ham bands are good to monitor as well. I can never get the frequency for the Fort Fisher base ,I know they use MT2000 or MTS2000 VHF with the wide band antenna.

If I am correct.

New Hanover Fire dispatches for all county fire departments as well as Carolina Beach, Wilmington, Kure Beach & Wrightsville Beach.

Then after dispatch all traffic is then assigned a ops channel on the New Hanover P25 system

I believe they still tone out fire on 154.295 Mhz.
I believe they still tone out EMS on 155.280 Mhz

I also think that Wrightsville Beach still has there channel of 154.445 Mhz as well.

I know at one time Federal Point, Ogden, Castle Hayne, Myrtle Grove, & North Wilmington had private or talk channels.

I don't know if they are still being used since the county has taken over all the volunteer departments or not.

I know that Wilmington/New Hanover County is just like Greensboro/Guilford County both city fire and county fire are dispatched on the same frequency.

Carolinas Fire Page has a complete listing of New Hanover County Fire Station Numbers

Law Enforcement is carried on the New Hanover P25 System. However there is talk of Law Enforcement being encypted so there goes any idea of trying to monitor those channels or talkgroups.

Hope this helps

David

For Fort Fisher, there are a couple of possibilities. 4th FSS for their NAF uses COTS portables, UHF*, I think. The NCArNG has big presence their and have no idea what they use.

Myrtle Grove is now occupied by Wilmington FD trucks and personel. I think Federal Point was also taken over too,no trucks lettered Federal point anymore.

NHC makes contingency plan for Myrtle Grove fire closure - WECT TV6-WECT.com:News, weather & sports Wilmington, NC

The 154.295 CSQ NHC fire and NHC EMS 155.280 186.2 were still active back at Thanksgiving 2013 when I was there. I will know more next week on current conditions.

Wow, Thanks for all of the info everybody. That was exactly what I was hoping to find by posting that question. With Wilmington PD switching to encryption this month and supposedly the Sheriff's office doing the same soon after I was afraid I was going to be listening to silence. I live in Carolina beach year round so the lifeguards and the equipment rental will be interesting to hear. Are the control channels for New Hanover county law enforcement definitely all identified? I wonder if it's possible that they may use a different channel that hasn't been posted to transmit on. I ask that because I very rarely hear Carolina Beach transmitting, even when patrol cars fly by the house with sirens/lights on or busy weekends when people are pulled over left and right and I never hear Kure Beach talk groups. I think that the Carolina Beach and Kure Beach police may actually be using the Pleasure Island TG for their combined tx's which makes more sense, but it just seems like I'm missing a lot. I may be way off base with that idea but either way, I really appreciate everyone's input. You've all been a great help

As a relative new comer to the area I, too, would like to thank you for this list. I am building a house in the Monkey Junction area and, once moved in, hope to contribute to the local monitoring list!
