Does Anyone Have Any Updates to the NPH/Nevada Shared Radio System?

I visited the Las Vegas area (Henderson to specific) in early July. I monitored the frequencies in the RR database for Nevada Shared Radio System (EDACS wide area) for the locations listed below. I heard very little NHP traffic on the EDACS trunk system. I wasn’t very confident that these frequencies are correct. I heard some traffic on one discrete frequency but never heard traffic on many of the other frequencies. I monitored the system for a period of 4 days. I never heard much for the four days.

Does anyone know for certain that these frequencies are operational or correct?

I actually had more success listening to the NHP on Nevada’s State Highway Patrol 151 MHz system, although I could not follow anything in the trunk mode. During the time I was out there, the NHP Air Patrol (I think the call sign was Air 2) was using 155.1900 over I-15 south of Las Vegas.

Of the locations listed above, which one/s would you expect to hear from Henderson (the closes Las Vegas street intersection would be 215 and I-15)?

I have no idea what is going on with the NSRS, at least around here. I live smack dab between two NSRS tower sites. I mean I could hit them with the 45-70 close and I can't hear any of the freqs supposed to be coming from those sites. :shock:

What's even worse is that after reseaching the FCC database Washoe County AND the State of Nevada SHARE frequencies licensing at the same sites???? :shock: :shock: :shock: :shock:

I moved to Las Vegas in August and when I moved here NHP was still on the VHF trunk system. As far as I know the state wide EDACS system was still being upgraded in the time you mention. I beleive it was in September that the first tests started taking place for the NHP. They would run for a few hours or a few days at a time on the NSRS and then switch back to the VHF system. Now they use the NSRS system as the primary TRS, and the VHF serves as the backup, so yes the NSRS is now working for the NHP. The VHF system got the better of me and I ended up just scanning conventionally and locking out the CC. :twisted:

I also have tried listening to the Sloan North site, but the copy is very poor. Normaly the talkgroups that I monitor are in the 01-XXX range, which seem to be some sort of Law Enforcement, but not NHP.

I have not tried the Jean (I would think that would be too far away) or the Sloan West site, but I would think that the Sloan site might be readable, but I have never tried it (maybe something for new years day ).

From Henderson I would suggest using the site and frequencies listed above. This site is supposed to be on Sunrise mountain (east side of Valley) and it has pretty good coverage. the coverage from this site gets a little spoty on the Western beltway where the roadway goes below grade. listening to radio checks has revealed that this problem was why they installed the site at Sloan.

As for the rural areas of the state I wold look to the VHF freqs first. I think Reno might have started to switch, or might be simulcasting; occasionally Reno talkgroups appear here in Vegas (05-141 for one).

While traveling to and from California on I-80 at Christmas, I found the NHP on VHF from Winnemucca to the west, and on 800 MHz from Lovelock to the east.
