I know that they are the same scanner except for outward apperances.I have 2 500's and i am happy with that model.I am going to purchase one more scanner and would like to get a different model.I think i will be able to purchase the 106 at a chaper price in the future.Does the speaker at the bottom of the 106 make any difference in the sound?I am told that the 106 has more base in the sound.That is not what i am looking for.I have a Uniden BC95XLTB and that speaker is at the bottom and i don't like that sound quality compared to the 500.
