I can't find anything in the Easier to read or the owner's manual. What tones are available on the 396? There are supposed to be 9 of them - are they like a single/double beep, ect? I understand the alert level as being just a relative volume level, independent on what you have set for the radio. And do they vary for each of the DMA scanners that support them? Do they vary with the alert function, such as emergency alerts, close call alerts, ect?

A good addition for our wiki-based DMA FAQ, I think 73 Mike

It is just different patterns of beeps. Check out the "Complete Reference" for the BCD396XT. It has the beep tones and patterns described in more detail starting on page 23 (alert tones are going to be variations on the High/Mid/Low tones in different patterns).

Thanks Paul, I will look there. Is it the same set of tones as used on the current batch of DMA scanners, such as the 396 (which is what I have)? 73 Mike
