Sure join the atcsmon Yahoo! group, download ATCS Monitor, and load some of the On-Line scanner feeds. (some even have the audio feed to go with it) There is a lot of information on the group site.

Yup, you can add a discriminator tap to many 800/900 MHz capable scanners, or modify old Maxtrac radios (the best solution really, selectivity and sensitivity is superb compared to a scanner or other general coverage receiver) to receive the data transmitted in the field with the aforementioned software. Field monitoring really helps out when railfanning and is so much more reliable than trying to catch crews calling signals.

Or, you can just monitor from home without a radio by monitoring one of the many servers available.

i've been trying to figure out how to use the software and servers and i cant seem to get anywhere with it
can you tell me what i would need to get with the maxtrac? and what software and how to run it?
