Does anyone know why New Haven SCAN

460.150 (aka New Haven PD channel 5) is encrypted tonight? This is the first time i have ever heard this.

I know the parade's this weekend and Im not sure who's using it, on conventional it sounds like ASTRO but on the pro-96 it goes into digital but sounds like chipmunks, encryption i would assume.

Its a channel i monitor all the time and this is a first.

I'm hearing it right now too. When I looked at the radio (BC-796) it said P25 ENC. Not too strong here in Derby, could be New Haven. I know they've been using this channel recently.

I know the New Haven PD uses Motorola XTS 5000's, Absolutely capable of encryption, So that's probably what it was.

Its strong here in East Haven, its definetely down here, I can probably count on one hand how many times I've actually heard anyone else using that channel.

Its just odd with the ASTRO ENC Auto Theft/ Narcotics usually operate in the clear, as I said earlier this is the first time i've ever heard them do this.


Makes you wonder the severity of what they are doing. I've listened in on them serving warrants on open frequencies. Oh well
