Does everyone have a pro-97?

Seems to be the most popular model. Nearly everyone who displays their radios in their sig has a pro 97 listed.

I have one too, and at the time of purchase I really didn't even know it was such a popular model. I just bought it completely by chance...

For those who have one, what do you like about it?

Not me. I see no sense in buying a radio that may be obsolete so soon and spending more money to send it in and have it fixed IF it can be fixed for rebanding.

I have one, but when I got it I also had no idea that it was such a popular model. It had the best frequency coverage out of all the scanners I looked at and had signal stalker. I knew nothing about trunking, rebanding, etc.

I see no reason to post your radios in sigs when half the time the people that do list OLD ones they had, ones that DONT WORK, or obsolete stuff....

There's even a member here that lists his gutted, non-working old saber 1. What use is that?


I've got a Pro-97 mainly because it does PL/DPL decode which is useful for a number of things.

I think people are making a bit too much of this whole rebanding thing.. So a few things are getting moved around in the 800MHZ neighborhood, big deal..

It's really the VHF bands and where the pro 97 really shines anyways..

Dubbin, dont forget that many of us may live in areas that dont trunk.. THe only trunking I have in my area is the Transit authority (maitenence and such) and a few commercial stuff.. none of the things I'm interested in (PD, Fire, ADI, Air) are trunked in my area.. so I don't see any worry about re-banding.. by the time my area rebands I will have a new scanner anyways.

Thats why I said "I see no sense in buying one". Don't get me wrong, I am not knocking the people that buy one. I would have one if it wasn't for this one problem. Heck I would buy one if I found a used one cheap enough ($100).

You said it right.. It's only effecting motorola trunking system and not even all of them.. Only the ones that operate within 866-869 MHz. Hardly the end of the scanning world..

I listen to only 2 trunking systems here in chicago and neither will be effected..

It will effect all but one MOT trunking system that I listen to hear in Ohio. At this time its just not the radio for me.

not me i perfer the 330t 246t over the pro-97 anytime. but might buy one anyway when it goes down to $100..

I'm really happy with mine. I like the frequency coverage and the signal stalker. The search mode comes in handy (cb, aircraft, ham, etc) when I don't feel like listening to fire, pd, or when I'm traveling outside the coverage I have programed in. Price was also a big factor since I'm just getting started.

i agree it a good start up scanner . then you will be working your way to more advanced ones. happy scanning.
