I bought a Uniden 246T radio years ago and it came with software that allowed programming and radio control through the software program. Does the Uniden SDS-200 come with software that allows programming and radio control through the software? I'm trying to decide if I need to pre-order the BUTEL Deluxe software for it.

TIA,

Keith

For the SDS and X36HP scanners, Uniden has the Sentinel software. That software is needed to maintain the master database, as well as being used to implement any firmware updates, if or when any might be provided. The software is free, and you can download and install it even before you order the scanner or it’s delivered. You can also use Sentinel to program the scanner by creating Favorites lists.

instead of buying the Butel software in advance, wait till you actually have the scanner. Then, you can download ARC536 as well as ProScan, and try them for a free trial period, to see which you prefer. Either one can program the scanner, but so can Sentinel.

For ARC536, the Basic version is about $40, and handles programming. If you also want logging and virtual control of the scanner via your PC, then you’d need, instead, the Pro version, which is about $70.

ProScan, @ $50, handles programming, but also includes logging and virtual control, among other features.

My preference is ProScan, since it does everything the ARC536 Pro version does, for $20 less, Plus, ProScan can also be used to program most of the other Uniden scanners back to the old BC780XLT. See ProScan’s webpage for the full list. If you were to become a Premium Subscriber, either software program supports importing from the RR database.

I should add that while Sentinel can program the scanner, there is no option for virtual control. If you want that capability then you’d need either ProScan or the Pro version of ARC536.

Sentinel doesn't do what the OP is asking for however. It is strictly for programming. For actual remote control via software, you'll need the paid version of the Butel software. But it works fairly well. I think Pro Scan will also remotely control it too.

ProScan is a one time $50 price... Updates to the software are free for life...

And as Bud mentioned you need Sentinel for full database and firmware updates, and also to setup the display layout and color scheme you want to use...

I have to concur with the others. ProScan is a great option for programming, remote control and for streaming your scanner over the internet. Once you’ve purchased the software, you can also run multiple sessions if you have other scanners you want to control or stream.
