• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Trigger the display when the volume knob is adjusted.

+1 on the suggestion. Would be nice to not have to push a button to activate the screen to see the volume.

If your device is plugged in then any volume adjustment will turn on the display.
If the device is running on battery power and there is no activity it sort of goes into a sleep mode. For me i just press the back arrow to turn on the screen then adjust volume. is it really that much of an inconvenience to press a button then adjust volume?

No, but it shouldn't be necessary. Activating any control should wake up the display, just like it does on many other similar devices.

Alright, I'll chime in. How about a Gorilla Glass screen instead of cheap plastic?

Check out the heavy duty screen protector kit that you can purchase from Ray's Pager Sales (great seller!). I have had one on my G4 since purchasing it new and feel it was a great addition to the pager and can highly recommend it!

As a professional grade device the pager should be built with stronger screen . Attachments are attachments and should not be a requirement to protect the unit. I have an I watch with the gorilla glass and have never experienced a scratch on its screen.

Once the display on my G5 times out, a volume change will not activate the display and the screen remains blank.
my G5 wakes (after about 30 seconds) upon changing the volume. I think it is just that the processor is a bit slow and it makes it seems like it is not responding.

Are you sure it's not being woken up by whatever your monitoring? I'll experience that periodically without any audio. Does this happen consistently? My G5 will not wake at all at any point.

Nope it it will be a completely black screen with just the volume bar that will stay lit about 5 seconds and then turn off again.
