Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I'm trying to understand the functioning of the software and the scanner. If there is an update to a trunk system in a favorites list, will this be updated automatically in the appropriate favorites list(s)? For example, if frequencies changed for a site would this update? If not, how do you keep track of changes?

Thanks,

Scott

It's OK the question has never been asked before. But the answer is always no the FL's are never updated with the DB. Thank God.

Why would I spend many (countless really) hours getting everything just the way I want it, only to have it overwritten in a week.

To answer your second question, you have to monitor the RR database website. If your state is green, that means that something was updated in the last 24 hours. If it's yellow, then something changed in the last week. Click on the state and you can then see which county/counties were updated.

Alternatively, you can become a premium subscriber, and choose which county/state pages you want to "watch", which notifies you of updates.

Either way, you will have to update your Favorites Lists manually in the radio or via the software.

All of the above - but if (like me) you forget to check it withing that time period, and it goes from green, to yellow. then normal - without me seeing it, I suggest checking the downloads and reports tab for your county every once in a while - in case you missed something.

This is more for the newcomers---- the old-timers here already know this stuff. It's a very common question that if often asked here. There may have likely been a way to accommodate some changes to the Favorites Lists automatically, but it would have been so complex and convoluted that it would have ended up defeating the purpose for the creation of the lists in the first place.

I have really come up with no easy way, having about 40 Favorites Lists, so what I do is each time I update the main database, I take an extra moment to manually update 2 or 3 of my FL's. I keep them pretty much in alphabetical order on the radio, so the first time I will do the A, B and C lists, The next week the D, E and F lists, and so forth. You get the idea. It is not a simple chore.

With Favorites Lists, I believe that there is a point of diminishing returns. Where the result does not justify effort. I guess it all depends on one's listening habits and one's listening environment. I don't really need 40 FL's--- in reality, I generally only use 4 or 5 at at time.

It's a situation that is similar to "Priorities"---- if you have too many, then everything becomes a priority and it ends up that nothing is really a priority.

That's what I do as well, check the reports for the systems you're monitoring every once in a while...

Got enough t-shirts to spare? I'll take an XL.... ;):ROFLMAO:

Seriously, the other thing I do in naming my FL's is include the year/month I created or revised them after the name, ie: "01 - HOME 2107". I try to update the frequently used FL's every few months (unless there is a *major* change in the DB), and the "destination" FL's get checked prior to my travel, or annually at a minimum. (I have what I feel is a manageable number of FL's.)

When the DB changed it would be GREAT if you could do a comparison to the FL and choose what to update.

I have my own OCD-based process for that, which would take up WAY too much space and time to recount here, and I'm not sure that I even want to try. Suffice it to say that it works for me.

Dumb Follow-up comment and question. I have a few fav lists. They are simply built from the main Sentinel list, not renamed, just a regional list of services I am interested in. I update the main DB every months or two and after doing that, update favorites when I write to the scanner. At least, that is what I thought I was doing!

So, if you have a single fav list with a P25 system. The system has changed and the DB is updates. By doing a DB update in sentinel and writing to the scanner, you are not updating your fav lists with the new data?

Confused......

Wonder if this is a fixable with enhanced Sentinel, essentially some fields (those from Database but not/or unless user customizable ones) for an FL entry are reference based (to the master DB) instead of copy based. Though not a incremental enhancement, need both DB internal data structural change & firmware update.

Updating the Master Database will NOT update any Favorites Lists in your scanner.

Many folks have tweaked their Favorites Lists, either Alpha Tag or Department assignments, etc. They would not like their hard work to be undone by some automated process.

If there are updates for your Favorites List, you have two options. Either do it manually, or re-create the Favorites List.

(It's not a dumb question. Rather it is one that is asked about every other month, so that's why others have responded as they have. The search function within these forums can help discover topics that have already been discussed.)

You just updated the full DB in your scanner, that's it. No FL, unless you edited it, or re-created it from the updated DB.
