I remember my initial reaction when I first saw the PRO-106 in action. I thought to myself, "Not too shabby." Very soon after that, I realized I must have this amazing scanner. So I purchased one. I now had the definitive scanner. Two weeks later, I purchased a second 106. I was a very happy camper.

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to see the new, 396XT do it's thing. Once again, I thought to myself, "Not too shabby."

What do you think?

Yeah, it never ends. I'm that way with analog synthesizers, radios, computers, iPhones, and pretty much anything that can be classified as 'gadgets' or 'gear'. The truly disturbing part is how easily we rationalize our "need" for better gear.

Right now I'm in the process of rationalizing my "need" for an HF setup. If I have an HF rig and can chase QSL's in foreign countries, it's kind of like traveling. So I can use my vacation budget. Problem solved. (or created, depending on how you look at it.)

I pretty much have to agree with you. Its just that I had thought the 106 was THE scanner.

The last scanner you buy is the best one, tell the newest one comes out. I think if GRE and Uniden ever got put out a radio together it would be the end of scanning.

Absolutely correct, sir. They know what we want, need, and are willing to pay.

Well, that is certainly true! :D I bought a BCD396XT Friday and have a PSR600. They are both amazing, but definitely different. In my dreams I'm taking some of the features from column A and some from column B and making my version of the perfect scanner...for now... ;)

I am right with you as far as the understaning wife part.

Pertaining to, what's next/where does it end? I feel it is a perpetually ongoing situation, that only stops when we expire.
