So I was not familiar with the SDR dongle but have been doing a little research. Would there be special software to download to be able to listen to a trunked P25 system? I watched some videos on YouTube. One guy said you need 2 dongles and download 4 different software programs. Do you have any more info that would make it easier? Also all I have to use is Chromebook.
If the only thing you have is the Chromebook, you're probably out of luck when it comes to decoding a P25 trunked system. I'm not aware of any P25 trunking software that will run on Chrome OS natively. The Chromebook is a pretty weak device compared to a modern PC or laptop, and so even if you could run a Windows or Linux emulator, you're probably not going to have much horsepower left to run the decoding software. So I'm planning on purchasing a SDR dongle. I could get two but in what situation would I need two instead of one?
You're probably better off looking for a decent used laptop with enough horsepower to use with SDRTrunk or DSD+ Fast Lane, both of which can decode P25 TDMA. OP25 requires Linux, not sure you really want to go down that rabbit hole.
