Just a bit of adivce dont break the battery door on your Pro 96. Been waiting on one for about 5 weeks when I got a letter today. Had expected the part in the 6-8 wk time frame. Today they tell me it is on indefinate back order. Well the bites, broke mine like the second week I had my scanner which I got for Christmas. Ordered 2 just to be safe too.

Anyone know if another scanners part fits. The door stays on for now but I dont want to risk wearing it on my belt- the batteries might fall out.

check the dimensions of the scanner and see if they have any covers for another scanner with the same dimensions. might work.

If all else fails, use some Wisconsin Crome. (duct tape)

Temporarily taping it up should work until your new cover comes in !!!

in a related thread i have started email wars with rat shack customer service.... suggesting maybe they sjhould stock some stuff that would fall off... the dweeb at customer service told me the pads on a 96 don't fall off and they don't stock replacement pads... i took copies of all the emails to the manager of my favorite rat shack and he is going to pursue it thru his district manager... you might want to take your problem to the manager at the store, if you trust them, and explain that this is not the way to treat someone who spent five hundred bucks on one of their scanners and ask that they get some other people involved....

Hmmm, mine have not gotten damaged in any way I can tell, but another owner here in town (yes there is more than just me here) had his fall off when it was about 3 months old. Maybe there was just a bad batch? :?:

cool... it would be nice if everyone who has lost a pad would email and demand that the folks at rat shack have a real answer like, "I am sorry your five hundred dollar radio had a defective adhesive strip, what is your address so we may replace them and keep you as a loyal and happy customer!" I am almost willing to bet that they would have a replacement pad if it was a cell fone!

In order to replace the grips, you have to order a new back case. These were quoted to me at $16 each plus shipping...

i appreciate the info qoatzecotl... i would order a new back case if i was building a new scanner, but i really believe, given the number of folks whose grips have fallen off, that this is a problem with manufacturing... i use my radio hard but i don't abuse it.....

Ok just to follow up something at Rat Shack must be all messed up cause today the parts actually came. SO now I going to ignore the letter I got Friday saying that its backordered and that they will refund my money after the 23rd. I'll keep you all posted.

As far as the pads are you talking the rubber pads on the sides of the case or the key pad. If its the first thats what epoxy is for.

Maybe they will screw up again, and still give you the refund. Wouldn't that be nice? :)

You can't even get parts for the 95 as of today. RS isn't what they used to be.

I'd like to welcome you to the site, I notice you have been busy on your first day on the site. You also wasted no time in copping my avitar. Didn't have one of your own? Couldn't make one yourself... It would have been nice if you asked at least.
