I know that you can't track Multinet systems. I was passing through Dorchester County and programmed up the system frequencies just as normal conventional channels just to see what the system was like. All I would receive was a carrier signal, no audio. Is this system in use?

Dorchester Multinet

Yes, the system is running has been since 1993. 859.2625 is the Multinet control channel. You have to lock this out when scanning this Multinet system. Funny thing is voice traffic can be heard on that channel. Mostly it is the 911 center. Its hit or miss for action on this system. We will be converting to a Motorola Type II Digital system very soon utilizing the same frequencies that we have now. When passing through Cambridge you may want to program 46.40(Fire2) and 453.300(Cambridge PD) in your scanner since Cambridge FD and PD do not use the current Multinet system.

I've been trying to monitor Dorchester for years. You wrote that one cannot monitor Multi-Net, I was under the impression that the Uniden 245XLT, 250D or 296D could monitor LTR multi-net systems. Am I mistaken?

Nope, the 245 can't do LTR at all. If memory serves, the 250 and 296 can handle LTR Regular systems; as far as I understand it LTR Multinet is a different - and proprietary - protocol that NO scanner can track.

Hello,

Currently the only way you can trunktrack a Multi-Net LTR system is with 2 radios and a computer. The requirements are similar to the Motorola Trunker program with the added requirement of a low-pass filtered slicer.
Program is still beta but it works. I have trunktracked the Chester Co., PA system without a problem. The programs are LTRDump and LTRTrunk.

There is some recent discussion on Low Pass Data Slicers here:

Multinet Monitoring

An easier way to monitor a Multinet system is to go on Ebay and purchase a Johnson Multinet radio. If you get permission from the 911 Center they will program it for you. I purchased my radio for less than fifty dollars and it included the charger. All I had to do was get a battery and an antenna.
As I said in the earlier reply Dorchester will be migrating to a digital Motorola system and will abandon the current Multinet system. So I would not waste your money on a Multinet radio.
