Completely lost now. Listening to Dorchester EMS at radio check doing a search of the knightsville site.and they send everybody to "Incident 1". The search does not pick up a talk group for that, do not hear any of the morning radio check. Anybody have a clue? Sounds like Dorchester county has started incident channels like Charleston but cannot find the channels.

I heard Dorchester EMS doing checks on TGID 4166 yesterday. They used to call that the "Admin" channel. I haven't been listening since the switch long enough to find out if they are doing something new. I just woke up after letting discovery run all night and record audio on my BCD436HP. Hopefully in a little while, I'll have some better data on channels to share.

Ok guys, here are the results of my overnight discovery on my BCD436HP of presumed Knightsville site 860.4625. There are three columns. Channel, TGID, and Certainty. "Certainty" is either Certain, High, Medium, or Low. This describes my degree of certainty that the channel description IS AS IT IS DESCRIBED. For instance, if the channel says "Unknown PD TAC" and the certainty is "High", then I am highly certain this is a PD TAC channel for an unknown police department. Hope this helps.

Description TGID Certainty
Summerville Fire 1 Ops 4365 High
Summerville FIre 2 Ops 4360 High
Summerville Fire 3 Ops 4361 High
St. George Fire Ops 4165 Medium
Dorchester EMS Roll Call 4166 Certain
Dorchester Sheriff Ops 4103 Certain
Charleston EMS Ops 1 2381 Low
Dorchester EMS Ops 4142 High
Meducare Flight & EMS Ops 10392 High
Meducare Flight Ops 10394 High
Walterboro EMS Ops 2931 High
Summerville PD Ops 4133 Low
Summerville PD TAC 1 4107 High
Unknown PD TAC 2 2951 Low
Unknown PD 6141 Medium
PD Records / TAC 3 27134 Low
SCHP Dorchester Troop 6 9613 High

This is pretty much what i figured out also so we are pretty spot on except for 4133 which are Dorchester towns police minus Summerville which the sheriff department dispatches for.

Excellent work! I'll update the database with some of this information later today. Thanks for your efforts. I will likely have some questions about this information that I will post later.

Ok guys, one problem. You'll notice my Summerville PD Ops confidence was at "LOW". I confirmed today it's NOT Summerville PD. So I am back to not being able to find Summerville PD anywhere. I even followed a Summerville PD police officer to an EMS call today and set my Pro-106 to Signal Stalker (close, strong signals), checking the 800Mhz range. I SAW him pick up his mic to advise he was coming on scene. I was RIGHT behind him and Signal Stalker hit on NOTHING. I was expecting it to stop on a voice channel he was using at the moment. Sigh. Summerville PD is the number one thing I want.

Ok, so I figure Summerville PD HAS to be out there somewhere. I just went out and bought a mobile scanner antenna for my BCD436HP and am getting MUCH better reception and more sites from my home in the Oakbrook area of Summerville (Ladson / Trolley / Dorchester area). I mounted the antenna on my car and drove ALL over Summerville. I was able to find the following sites for System ID 1D9:

Site ID 008 / 853.1250
Site ID 009 / 858.8375
Site ID 010 / 857.9375
Site ID 012 / 853.9500
Site ID 013 / 853.5125
Site ID 018 / 860.4625

I will be scanning all these AND the one still-existing Motorola 800 control channel I can find in Summerville in an attempt to ID new channels and hopefully find my golden egg...Summerville PD.

Ok guys, this is blowing my mind. Someone let me know if I'm worrying about nothing.

System 1D9 / Site 012 (853.9500) / TGID 1593
Absolutely CERTAIN I heard an In-Code from Dorchester EMS to Summerville ER.
System 1D9 / Site 018 (860.4625) / TGID 4172
Absolutely CERTAIN I heard an In-Code from Dorchester EMS to Summerville ER.

Anyone want to explain that?

So here's where it gets complicated. Not all 1D9 sites are created equal.

Sites 10, 12, and 13 are all part of the "original" Charleston sites, and therefore, they will likely only carry the Charleston County talkgroups that have been listed for a long time. They won't carry Summerville or Dorchester County talkgroups, most likely.

Sites 8, 9 and 18 are "new" sites that will not carry Charleston County talkgroups but will instead carry the same agencies they had back on the Palmetto 800 system - Berkeley, Dorchester, Colleton, SCHP, other state agencies, etc. Seems like Charleston Site 9 had carried some Dorchester County and Berkeley County talkgroups. But Knightsville Site 18 seems like the primary Dorchester County site, and Moncks Corner Site 8 is the primary Berkeley County site.

I have to believe that Summerville PD is carried on the Knightsville site. How does your scanner handle encryption? Does it automatically mute encrypted channels? It's possible that they've switched to an encrypted channel that you can't receive with any radio. Using software like Pro96Com or Unitrunker that analyzes system activity would reveal any encrypted talkgroups. Your PRO-106 would also tune to encrypted channels and you'd hear the broken audio.

Site 12 is one of the original Charleston County sites, and carries 1D9 traffic related to Charleston County only.

Site 18 is a new 1D9 site that carries traffic from agencies other than Charleston County.

So 4172 could be Summerville ER for Dorchester County EMS units, while 1593 could be Summerville ER for Charleston County EMS units. They could also be patched together.

It wouldn't surprise me completely if these sites "merge" in some way in the future, but knowing that Charleston County operates their "own" system tied into 1D9, like Beaufort/Florence/Sumter, they are more likely to stay separate.

Bordering sites will carry other counties traffic. Pretty much how all statewide systems work. Pointless not to. Ymmv as to size of overlap coverage but there it is. There will be some tgs site locked and others zone locked.

YES, BRIAN! TGIDs 4350 and 4351 keep coming in (very frequently used) as broken audio! I kept wondering what that was. I didn't realize about the encryption. So there's no way to decrypt then? What would be weird though, is for a small police force like Summerville PD to be using something NO ONE else on the same site is. But SOMEONE is using 4350 and 4351 and since I can't find Summerville PD anywhere, I have to acknowledge that possibility. I did notice (much later) that "beanball14" said he believed Dorchester Sheriff was now dispatching for Summerville PD. He could be right but I personally have not heard any evidence of this.

Milf - Charleston County and apparently Dorchester County now each have 2 overlapping sites on 1D9. One is the original Charleston County site that is "owned" by Charleston County and carries their radio traffic. The other is the former Palmetto 800 that just converted to P25. It carries the state agency traffic (SCHP, mostly) and the other county agencies (Dochester, Berkeley, Colleton, etc). It's the same system, same coverage area, but different owners and managers of these sites.

Same way it works on SAFE-T, TACN, LWIN, AWIN, MSWIN . They have to set up a "roaming" area surrounding the main usage area so units can leave the county for mutual aid chases etc. Especially useful for fire and EMS.
