Does anyone know if the DOT still uses Station One to broadcast to various units ? Any ideas what units they would dispatch to?

I've never heard that talkgroup used but its an admin talkgroup. I don't monitor a SC21 tower with IDOT offices/admin nearby which could be why I haven't heard it.

Back in the mid-1980, I had the opportunity to visit IDOT Station 1, which was the radio room at the agency's headquarters on Dirksen Parkway in Springfield. They could communicate with IDOT units statewide via remote 47 MHz transmit/receive sites. Among other duties, Station 1 now monitors the STARCOM21 'IDOT Statewide' talkgroup (4485).

I assume that they are able to go statwide with SC21

Correct. They're often heard on the 'IDOT Statewide' talkgroup checking the status of various units who have activated their radios' emergency buttons (usually by accident).

IDOT recently posted a quick 5 second tour of Station 1 in Springfield on instagram. Their description was "This 2400 square foot communication center serves as the hub for traffic management. Here, staff monitors road conditions, supports field personnel, responds to emergencies, and provides traffic surveillance." They also said there are three other traffic management centers in Schaumburg, Peoria, and Collinsville.

I've had a couple of radio IDs identify themselves as "Station 1" on IDoT talkgroups over the years - 646003, 649990, 649991, and 6400088

Yes they do. I worked for IDOT 1978-2002 in Dist. 5 . Every morning at 9:30 Station One would give the State Wide Road Condition Report. Winter Road Conditions, Road Closures. Back in those days we had Motorola Tube Type Radios. They got the job done. The new radio system they have now is light years ahead of what we had.
