FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Larimer County Sheriff's Office
Eloise B. Campanella
May 26, 2006
A Larimer County Sheriff's Office deputy stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation at 3:17 A.M. on May 26, 2006 near the intersection of Mulberry and Shields in Fort Collins. After the car was stopped, it maneuvered away from the deputy and a pursuit ensued. Both cars went through area neighborhoods and ultimately were eastbound on Mulberry. After crossing Riverside, speeds increased to 70 miles per hour. Other area law enforcement agencies blocked intersections to protect the public during the pursuit.
At the intersection of Mulberry and Lemay, the suspect vehicle swerved around a motorcycle. It is believed it then lost control, hit a Sheriff's Office vehicle which was stopped at that intersection. The suspect vehicle hit a light post and overturned. The deputy was not in the vehicle at the time of the impact as he was attempting to throw road fangs in the intersection.
Both occupants in the vehicle were confirmed dead on impact. None of the deputies were injured during the incident.
Fort Collins C.R.A.S.H. Team will be investigating the accident.
Larimer County Coroner is on scene and will make positive identification pending an autopsy.
The suspect vehicle has been confirmed as stolen out of Centennial, Colorado, on March 11, 2006.
