Hey everyone I have been researching threads on the RR site to try and figure this out but I cant seem to isolate an answer on how to fix the problem or if its just a problem that exists and there is no way to correct it.

When I monitor Arapahoe County and Adams County I never hear any of the transmissions get cut off and go digital, they both come in clear and crisp.

I hear DC transmissions go digital quite a bit, and sometimes PRKR and C ROCK. In DC, the dispatchers for DC say they couldn't understand the unit because they went digital, so I know at least 50% of the time I hear the digital transmission, they are having problems too.

This is what I have found as the possible problem.

1. Nextel Interference
2. AT&T Cell Towers
3. I'm possibly to close to the site
4. I'm too close to a cell tower
5. Bad Scanner

Are any of these possible? Or is there a better answer. Thanks.

If dispatch is hearing units go "digital" it's almost always due to the other unit being in a fringe area or area with poor coverage and not getting into the nearest site very cleanly.
I doubt it has much to do with you.

I don't think being too close to the site would cause any kind of issue, unless you're trying to monitor a more distant site on a nearby freq, where you might get interference.

I think any cell tower in general will cause havoc in 800MHz monitoring. Is there a particular technology (CDMA vs GSM) that will cause more problems than another?

If dispatch is saying they're going digital, then you're hearing exactly what dispatch is and it's not you or the radio.

Appreciate the input

Hey guys, thanks for thinking this through with me. There are a lot of cell towers in Highlands Ranch and when i think about it the DCSO transmissions are digital most of the time they are in HR. Hopefully DCSO will get tired of it too and figure out a way to cure it.

Another stupid question from jfab!

Is there a way to cure it? I would guess no, but I've been wrong before (alot...lol)

Depends where you are Ron; Chevron, Smoky Hill, Castle Rock and West Creek are all good for Douglas County monitoring.

Metcom & Littleton dispatch for much of Northern Douglas County and Chevron or Glendale are best to monitor them; Castle Rock, Franktown, Larkspur, Jackson 105 and West Douglas are dispatched by DCSO and while most are not that busy can be heard on Castle Rock, West Creek etc depending on what dist the call is. Remembering the on-line feeds is a good way to compare also.
