• Effective immediately we will be deleting, without notice, any negative threads or posts that deal with the use of encryption and streaming of scanner audio.

We've noticed a huge increase in rants and negative posts that revolve around agencies going to encryption due to the broadcasting of scanner audio on the internet. It's now worn out and continues to be the same recycled rants. These rants hijack the threads and derail the conversation. They no longer have a place anywhere on this forum other than in the designated threads in the Rants forum in the Tavern.

If you violate these guidelines your post will be deleted without notice and an infraction will be issued. We are not against discussion of this issue. You just need to do it in the right place. For example:

I have a new 996, and not having had one which can be programmed from the computer before I am at a complete loss. I know there are companies who will be selling software to program the unit other than the program provided by Uniden.
Everything I have in the unit at this point has been programed in with the uniden software and was a slow process.
How do I download a complete city system which can be used by the software to be loaded into the unit. I am a little dense so this has to be step by step.

Thanks in advance

The software from Uniden isn't all that bad. I think some of the 996 and slow programming is the complexity/flexibility of the scanner. With that said, BuTel is known to have great software. (This is my first Uniden scanner in recent times. I have been a GRE/RS man.)

You can find the BuTel website here - http://www.butel.nl/

I hope the 996 software is released soon.
