Dallas police chopper lands safely after bird strike

A Dallas PD Helicopter while searching for a missing boater was forced to make an emergency landing after a duck shatters the windshield. The copilot took the controls after the bird smashed the windshield and landed safely. The pilot was hospitalized for cuts but is otherwise OK, the duck was found dead in the back of the chopper. Temporary repairs were made (reportedly using duct tape) and the chopper was flown back to base for repairs.

A Dallas Police Department helicopter was forced to make an emergency landing Monday night after hitting a bird over Lake Ray Hubbard

Police spokesman Maj. Max Geron said the pilot suffered minor injuries when the windshield shattered on impact when it struck an American coot, a duck-like waterfowl also known as a mud hen.
