DPD Motorcycle Unit Turns 100

DETROIT (AP) - The Detroit Police Department's motorcycle unit is celebrating 100 years of service.
The Detroit Free Press reports Saturday that the unit was created in 1908 as part of an effort to quickly respond throughout the city.
At its peak, there were as many as 200 officers in the Motorcycle Squad, as it was previously known. Today, there about 30 in the Detroit Police Department Traffic Enforcement Motor Unit, with the majority in traffic enforcement.
Police Chief Ella Bully-Cummings says it's an elite unit.
