DENVER - Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting in the Montbello neighborhood that sent one man to the hospital early Monday.
Denver Police say the shooting happened at 51st and Fontana Court just before 4 a.m. They say the initial report was that a man was trying to harm himself.
However, police say the report later changed to a man with a knife trying to force his way into a home.
When officers arrived at the home, they say a confrontation took place in the street, which led officers to shoot a 34-year-old man. They say the man was armed with a knife.
Police say the man was taken to Denver Health Medical Center where he is listed in critical condition.
Authorities have not released the name of the man, or the names of the officers involved.
The officer who shot the suspect was also hurt during the confrontation. He was taken to the same hospital with minor injuries.
