Been thinking about buying a DPD OmniX Antenna with some Bury-Flex cable for about a 75' run to use as a multi band antenna. any opinions about this antenna or would you recommend a different antenna. also is Bury-Flex a good choice for coax. Thanks, Mark

If that is a direct bury cable, and you are not going to be burying it, then it is overkill. Better cables are available.

Unscientifically I can tell you the X made a huge difference for me, over a groundplane. Especially on VHF/UHF! I don't scan much 700/800mhz so can't advise you there. What variety of Bury Flex were you thinking of using?

Works really good for me in Missouri. Your area probably has different terrain and different agencies so hard to tell how it would work for you.

Thanks everybody for your quick response, I do listen to several p25 systems as well as VHF high and UHF frequencies. Any suggestions for a good coax cable ?

On a budget the bury-flex will do.....on higher frequency’s the LMR 400 is the normal choice .......make sure it’s times microwave brand .....not a Chinese knock off .......saying it’s LMR 400 .....you could run a 7 foot or so RG8x patch cable to your scanner

The LMR 400 sounds like the way to go. now I just have to find a reputable dealer, I don't want to get bogus cable seeing that LMR 400 can be pricey.

You could get a good low noise $30 amplifier and use cheap RG6 coax and it would probably improve both the antennas performance and you wouldn't need to worry about coax losses and could later add a splitter to feed several scanners and receivers. In the mean time you put a variable 0-20dB attenuator at the end of the coax and attenuate until you get the best noise free reception, which depends on the scanners performance and the amount of strong signals you have in the air.

I have one on the way, should be here sometime this coming week. Once I have it up, i'll report back.

This antenna is great. It is a big step above my discone. I am in Southern NJ, a few miles from KPHL and the ground side is coming in stronger. And as a guage, I am within in the range of the DE Cap that goes up when President Biden heads home to DE. The AR comms are booming know versus previously.

Wish I would have bought one sooner. I have been toying with the idea for almost two years now. Glad I did.

It's mounted in my attic, I didn't mount it outside yet. I did get a run of LMR400 off of ebay with N and BNC pre terminated.

Did you get the MilAir OmniX or the general coverage one?

I have an OMNI X and its up high on mast. Coax is 50' of LMR 400. Previously I was using a Diamond Discone, which was also a very fine antenna. But the OMNI X sure pulls in those distant UHF PD & FD signals from all over Plymouth, Bristol and Norfolk Counties in Massachusetts. I am in central Rhode Island. I hear stations I couldnt hear using discone. It has so-so reception of (800 mhz) simulcast P25, but depends on many variable, like your location etc. Out of the 4 sites in RI I can receive one of them [South zone] perfectly with the OMNI X.....but the other 3 sites are not as good. Also the OMNI X is VERY well built.
