A new 300-foot communications tower and radio control building were approved for installation at Hazel Bazemore Park in Northwest Corpus Christi to aid in communications with the Texas Department of Public Safety, Nueces County Commissioner Pct. 3 Oscar Ortiz said.

A DPS tower has been located in the park for 30 years, but this will be a new tower with all the necessary concrete foundations and footings, guy wires and shelters for the protection of the necessary equipment.
The TXDPS currently owns and operates a communications tower and radio control building at the park, but the new tower and building will enhance the city/ county/ RTA 800 Mhz radio system.
Nueces County Department of Homeland Security funds are being used to improve the system, Ortiz said.
Ortiz said the new tower will help with DPS communications in the river bottom area and eastern parts of Nueces County.
A tower surface lease and agreement between the county and state of Texas was also approved for one year with an option to extend the agreement for up to four additional years.
