Makes sense. I probably won't be back in the area until mid July in any case.

They will stay on VHF in their areas outside of the 700 systems, but in the areas where there they are within range of the interconnected systems, they can use them on there. They will be using the 700 primarily for interop with other agencies on the systems. So you really won't be hearing much for a while.

The new radios are down in South Alabama. The Troopers went to a Safety Expo last weekend in Covington County, Alabama. My friends were able to see the radios already mounted in the car. What is so odd about it is there are no 700 MHz towers in the county that the trooper covers.

I've noticed in the past few weeks that a couple of Hamilton and Quad Cities troopers have new Motorola P25 mobiles installed. Unknown model, just heard their distinctive sound over the air. The majority are still using the old M7100s.
