I heard DPS sign KKA603 on 155.4675, heard both sides of the communications. According to RF that freq belongs to KJW750 in Sulphur Springs. I have lived here all my life in DFW and had a scanner since I was 15 and never been able to figure out the DPS channels. Does anyone have any insight to the true radio lineup for DPS?

The key to remember is that DPS is set up as a duplex system in many locations. The base transmits on one frequency, and the mobile radios (units in the field) are on a totally different frequency. Of late, there have been more instances, such as you heard, where the dispatcher sets his console so that both sides of the traffic is heard, but that's not always true. However, for the areas covered by one of the mobile repeaters (that collection of frequencies is in the statewide channel plan on the database page), you will hear both sides when the repeater is used. Those are the ones labeled as "Repeater xx" (the xx being a number).

Also, with the use of MDT's, especially in metro areas, radio traffic is considerably lessened. In the rural areas, you're more likely to hear the DPS troopers on the individual county Sheriff's Office dispatch channels.

Of late, there have been more instances, such as you heard, where the dispatcher sets his console so that both sides of the traffic is heard, but that's not always true.

It appears in my area that the base/repeaters are in repeat mode all the time.
The dispatch consoles multicast to all the repeaters but the repeater receivers are not patched so the mobiles can only be heard on the repeater that they are using.
I don't know if they are doing that everywhere now or not.

KJW750 was what Sulphur Springs DPS used when they had a communications staff there. Several years ago Dallas (Garland), KKA603, took over and controls the transmitter via telephone line, along with the Paris and Greenville repeaters. During off hours they do the same thing in Sherman and with the Denton repeater. Occasionally Mineral Wells takes over Sherman dispatch responsibility. I'm sure this is going on all over the state.

El paso typically dps will only simulcast on all repeaters the dispatch and mobiles stick to there selected repeater for full repeated but not across the other repeaters in region unless a pursuit or officer needing help noticed they will then open all the repeaters for same transmission.
