How does DPS (HP) get data for their MDTs? Is it somehow embedded in the voice frequencies or are there separate frequencies or what?

They use cellular data service.

I take it that they have to get that info via radio in areas with no cell service?

First Net who they use via ATT.

They use a several different providers as of this time. They do it over the air where they don't have service but I think that tthere are few places where there is no cell service along the highways these days.

Motorola APX Next LTE/LTR Radio

This will replace the current APX radios. APX next will make the cellular switch more seamless along with more radio features. 1 feature is basic MDT functions for running Plates etc.
