Driving through Central & Southeast Texas this week I am hearing a lot of new DPS Activity. I have Noted Dispatching on 155.3700. I have also noted Primary-A Operators reffering to that station as CH-14 on many occassions.

Has the Texas DPS been changing the Old Chanelization to a new layout? and has Primary-A been re-designed to look like DPS Channels 11 thru 19 the Old TLE Repeater's?

I am hearing the Sherman Operator on 155.3700, 155.4600 and 159.2100. Are these temporary use Channels while Region-1 Digitalizes? I am also Noting Dallas DPS units Calling Dallas KKA603 and Dallas Clearing KKA603 on 159.2100. while activity on 155.4450 has become virtually non-existant statewide under PL: 162.2

DPS Operators using, RR-DB & Forums, do you have and New info as to what is taking place?

Thanx.

Things are slowly coming together for the digital change over in the next year. The Hurst repeater that used to operator on 155.445 has been shutdown. The Dallas North Tollway units still use 155.445, but I forgot what the tone is. Units in Tarrant County that used to use this repeater now use the Aledo repeater to talk to Mineral Wells or when they are in the NW part of Tarrant county, they switch to the Decatur digital channel and call us.

I don't know why Sherman is simicasting in 155.370, I have noticed some Region 4 stations doing it also.

Digital is change over is slowing making progress.

Conroe is possibly the only station left on 155.445 PL 162.2. I think that Sulphur Springs is still using it though. My aunt is the Tyler DPS Communications Supervisor up there. I'll ask her when I get around to it.

Dps (new)

Sulfer Springs is Simualcasting on 155.3700 too.

DPS Dallas PGB use 155.4450 PL: 107.2 and DPS Dallas DNT use 157.3500 PL: 162.2 (The Old Channel used by Texas Tollway Authority.)

So 8504, will the Radio Personality Lineup be differant? Primary-A stay DPS-1/2 and CLE on 5/6 so on and so fourth? I have heard rumers TLE is going to be Drastically cut Back to not as many channels/Repeaters. any truth to that?

Been listening to Some Digital here and there with diferant agencies, the Carrier is a lot more solid on Digital than in Analog. Dispatch will 10-1 a lot of radio traffic the Unit will go Digital and the Carrier becomes 10-2 with no Movment from the unit.

the word I got with a few PD's I handle Radio Services for though, is Digital will not become a Requirment for another 5 years. Trenton have Astro's but Now will not HAVE to buy Astro-Saber's for some time. Fannin SO will not go Full Digital for another three to four years, Just use Digital As a secure Tac Channel. Sherman and Denison However, have a Channel they use that is Digital and Encrypted so Kiss scanning that one bye bye!

Thanks 8504 for the Info.

I have 155.445 and 157.35 in and on all the time, and NEVER hear any activity on 155.445! Seems the PGB and the DNT units all operate on 157.35.

Oh my, once the DPS is full P-25 a new scanner is for me.

I am not sure what the band plan is, but with the narrow banding being mandated and the new narrow band equipment, it will open up a few new channels. I do not have the complete list of what they are but they should splinter off the main 155.460 and 155.445 frequencies along with witht he 159.210 and 156.210 frequencies. There will be about 5 or 6 frequecies additional frequencies in use. Along with several different repeater frequencies. The problems we are having now is intereference with each other. The digital cleaned up the channels but also let some of them carry futher. And they still skip.

As for being forced to go digital, none of the agencies will be forced to go digital, but when the narrow band frequecies are mandated to go into effect, as the agencies renew their fcc license, they will be forced to purchased narrow band equipment and then they have the choice of digital or analog operation mode.

Will watch this as lately I hear nothing even though I'm just blocks away from the big Command Center here in Austin.
(Used to hear KKD303 24/7...)

Maybe you can tell me what the DPS uses these frequencies for in Austin

I'm running the Pro96 and a Pro91 at the same time looking for DPS.
KKD303 hits the 96 to some extent this evening. The freq is always 155.46750, though it sounds like I'm a bit off-freq. When they hit together the 91 shows 155.460.
Must be somewhere in between.

Tried programming the 91 with ALL the DPS freqs in the RR database and alas I needed the 96's "extended freq" ability so they are all in there, but very few hits.

Will keep trying and keep the forum informed.

Capitol Security hits pretty often at 460.07500 in FM. Very clear modulation, though I can't understand the call sign as they are apparently trained to slurr it... (No doubt for security purposes.)

DPS has Capitol Security and Executive Security working down there.
Hear them more than KKD303 lately...

Is it possible Austin THP units are using the Travis County Digital Trunk more? Heard Austin some on 155.460 tonight. Of course, I have to fight Bryan. Three 159.210 repeaters are linked to the main 155.460 Base here in Bryan, so that is four channels (Cameron, Somerville, Flynn, and Bryan) that are all tied into one. Lots of traffic stops. Our Grimes County THP units don't even bother with Bryan for normal traffic stops. They leave that to Grimes County Comm Center. Easier to get through.
Question arises from this......When I lived in Huntsville, I noticed that all the Conroe 155.445 traffic from dispatcher only was simulcasted on the Channel 19 repeater in Huntsville. Only units I could hear in the field were units actually transmitting on Channel 19, the 2530's from Walker County THP. Since I have heard this same setup on the Flynn repeater in Leon County linked to Bryan, my question is does this happen all over for every comm center with 159.210 repeaters under their control, with the dispatcher only simulcasting even if no units are using the 159.210 repeater at the time?

The 45.100 used to be HQ security detail. I do not know about the other three.

155.460 programmed here. Nada, zip, no-cigar, no joy- here in Austin.
Checked Win96 latest download and saw freq so I assume it's in the unit.

Will keep monitoring,

Minutes later--- KKD303 began hitting 155.460 MHz in the FM mode.

Interesting that the ID says KKL745. This was programmed from the RR DataBase though it it probably a common DPS Freq for many locations. Can't hear mobile on either the 866MHz Ground Plane or the origianal equipment ducky, but this may not be a simplex freq for the DPS.
Running the ducky as it's supposed to be better for VHF where I'm looking for the DPS Freqs....

Have fired the 91 up again, AUHHHHHH! Now I have them in Stereo! Results are the same from both, though the 91 does un-squelch a bit faster.
(Running center- load extendable on 91.)
Just caugth a bit of mobile on the 91. (Real time, respond-as-I-receive-mode going on here as you probably quessed. There is some time between short hits to type...)

I think the 91 is winning so far by a short margin...

Now all is quiet, so I'll Let It Be.

BUT 155.460 MHz is FM mode is a very good freq with the Pro91 beating the Pro 96 for monitoring this freq in FM modulation. I guess this is why I have the 96 set for APCO 25 and EDACS here and use the 91 for AM/FM.

FYI I'm in Central Austin just blocks from KKD303 and it's 20:50 CDT with clear sky and hot- no fronts in area.

Jon

I am in El Paso Tonight with my 396t - DPS sounds good on P25, are they going to eventually repat the mobile traffic?

155.460

Unless things change under a P25 scenario, the 155.46 is only the base transmit freq...the mobiles transmit on 154.68!!! A DUPLEX system. They can patch it to sound like a repeater, but most of the time it is duplex. The 159.21 system, is a true repeater. The DPS has used a duplex system for as many years as I can remember. Many years ago it was 42.90 for base and 42.74 for mobile.

...almost. The mobiles can TX on 155.46 if they are on direct (Ch 2 I think).

Funny thing is, even in P25 (in which "A" is 155.4675), the direct channel is still 155.46 (not 155.4675). Goofy!
