Hello everyone, I am trying to listen to the Draper Prison. What site do I put in in order to hear them, I tried the point of the mountain group under UCAN but did not hear anything, Any help would be great. Thanks
Depends a lot on your location. If you cannot hear the Site that Jon pointed you to from where you are located (which would be the best), try Nelson Peak (Site 011). You might get some affiliation from that site.Hello everyone, I am trying to listen to the Draper Prison. Sheesh, I would think that you should be able to catch prison traffic on Salt Lake Simo also. There is a transmitter station on SL Simo just east and north of the prison in Draper which would put it in the whole SL Simo system. I know that I have heard prison traffic on SL Simo, but it has been their cars doing searches around the prison grounds. Not sure if that would make a difference.Well I am in the South End of the Salt Lake Valley I should be able to hear the point of the mountain. I dont hear the data stream on the control channel. However the scanner shows a signal strength on the system. I have yet to hear any audio on the system I will continue to monitor it. And if nothing I will try nelson thank you.
I was hoping you would show up tbogs. If anyone would know I figured you would. The only way you will hear Prison traffic (inside the Prison) is from site 015. Other UDC TG's that you hear from Nelson or Salt Lake County are mainly Draper Prison Outside Enforcement, AP&P, Transportation (Tango Units) and Community Correctional Centers.
Hello everyone thanks for the Advice. I have erased and started over just to make sure. I enabled Control Channel only, I created a new system, and added all the TG ID's but when I send the information to the scanner and then tune to the control channel i can not hear the data. Does this transmitter come from the Prison itself? Or is it a mountain top tower?
What scanner are you using? Are you in open mode or closed mode? You should be hearing plenty of activity!
Open mode is when you don't particularly care what TGs you listen to so you just open it up to whatever the CC sends your way. In Closed mode you want to listen to specific TGs so you close things down except for the TGs you specify.CCO mode allows the scanner to operate properly using only the control channel.
(The voice channels do not need to be entered in this case.)
The search mode tells the scanner I want to hear ALL TALKGROUPS- UNLESS I have specifically locked it out. This will allow you to hear everything right now, just to see it work. Later on you can add a list of only the talkgroups that you want to hear, and you will switch to SCAN mode at that time. I think this is what Kf7yn means by open or closed search mode. Perhaps he could verify that for me.

Also SIGNAL6, have you made sure your attenuator is off? I don't have your scanner but with my PSR 600 I have to have the attenuator off to pick up the Prison otherwise the signal is weak and nothing comes through.
To answer your question about location; the Prison's radio system is on the East side of I-15 at the Dept of Corrections building not far from the Prison.
The signal output must be very low and extremely localized. I live in the area of 5600 West and 4900 South and can not get any reading from the CC (I do not have an outside antenna). It seems like the GPS coordinates for this site indicate that it is the UHP building on the south-east side of the Bluffdale exit - High enough on the bench to see most of the valley, but definitely not on a mountain top. It also must be a relatively low power signal. On the Utah County side I dont even get a good signal until I am almost at the point of the mountain. On the SL County side you can get it from much farther away, but it still seems a lot weaker than other sites from a comparable distance. Even so, you should have no trouble getting a decent signal from your location.
