Apologize if this has been asked before but recently bought an ST-2 Scanner antenna and want to mount on the roof. Found a plumbing vent about 4 inches in diameter that would be perfect for the mast mount.

Question is.....Can I drill a hole through the roof for the RG6 cable? Is there a "kit" for that so I don't have to worry about a leaking roof? Or is there a way to accesss the attic with the wire through the vent cap that runs along the peak of the roof?

There's probably flashing around the vent pipe. I would drill through that, then just use some good caulk around the hole. That would be easy to fill back in, and if you go through the flashing, you don't have to worry about water getting in from under it. Just be careful you aren't putting too much stress on the pipe. And the hole should go below the pipe, not above it. 4" sounds big for a plumbing vent. Make sure that's what it is... ABS or PVC, and not metal.

Here's what I did...worked great.... I drilled a small hole in the side of the vent pipe "in the attic". And then took the cable through the vent pipe and thru the hole in the pipe into the attic.....very simple. Drip loop of course.
