Hey everyone,
My department is in the process of upgrading some of its pagers from Minitor IIs to IVs, so I might soon have some access to the chargers for the minitor iis. I checked them, and theyre only slightly smaller than the br330t(which is good, because they can be modified to fit the radio, and hold it snugly). I am going to make a drop in charger for my br330t, and I was wondering if I did, how many people would be interested in having one? Obviously this requires some modification to the radio, but it can be done. At the same time, my serial port doesn't work too well with Windows XP x64, so I was going to integrate a USB<->Serial interface into the base as well to allow me to connect it to my computer. Depending on the AC adapter's current rating(I dont have it on me right now), it might be possible to charge the radio via the USB port, if it doesnt draw too much power. But wait, theres more. If I have a USB connection onboard, I can also create a small circuit to take audio and stream it via USB. This means that you would be able to reprogram, record from and charge your scanner, without having to deal with connecting all those cables(audio, data, power).
I want to make one for myself, but it wont be cheap, thats why I want to do it in bulk(more than 10), to drive the materials cost down. I priced out the charger bases, circuit board production, and all the other misc. electronic components, and it would be about $120-$150 for one.
Would anyone be interested? Obviously, I wouldn't ask for any money until a finished product is available and proven to work, I just want to see if it would be feasible to continue to pursue the idea.
Also, does anyone know how the BR330T and BCD396T differ? Did Uniden just turn off the digital decoding in software, or is there seperate digital hardware in the BCD396T? I ask not so I can make my 330t a 396t for free, but I want to see how much room I have inside to put the neccasary circuits inside. Theres room in the 330t, I just dont know if theyre different internally.
