Over the past month maybe more, I have noticed that certain Local Lake County PD's have been using County Sheriffs "main" frequency, while Lake County Sheriff uses their other 2 until about 8:00 pm when you hear dispatch say "attention all county units, resume normal traffic on main frequency".

Most of what you hear sounds like "routine" traffic stops, with the eventual chase. an excample of what I heard last night:

County New Chicago (unit number)
New Chicago (unit number) County.
County, New Chicago (unit number) 10-27, I80 west bound, mile marker (???) On Indiana License # (???-?????)
So on and so on.

First, New Chicago doesn't patrol I80, it's not in their jurisdiction, also I have heard East Chicago, Hammond, Gary, Hobart, Merrillville, Griffith, Highland, and a few others on County as well on other days. Some also out of their jurisdiction as well.

I heard this was a Drug Interdiction thing, but now I wonder, could it just be maintanance on their towers? or something else?

Anybody else hear anything about this that could shed some light on the situation?

i believe its the special task force wich include officers from different towns.

Thanks aandraldaba.

I thought it might be something, judging by what I have been hearing, but if it is a "special task force", why would they still use their own town/unit names?

Have you read or seen anything on this subject?

I haven't seen anything in the papers, but I have heard "rumors" as to what it is, thats why I posted, see if anybody knew for SURE.

F.Y.I I heard it straight from the dispatchers mouth, It/They are Drug Interdiction teams. here is what I heard on their "Main" frequency yesterday:

Officer: County, (unit#).
Dispatch: (unit#).
Officer: County, (unit#) are we still using channel 2 for 10-27/29's?
Dispatch: (unit#) Affirmative, Drug Interdiction is still using Channel 1 at this time.
Officer: 10-4.

So I guess this answers my question!
