It looks like MS Paint, Comint... Rudimentary and frustrating sometimes, but it works for me too

Sorry to have to ask, but what program do you use to put the comments on your images?

new universal I/Q receiver dongle up to 1700 MHz.

Definitely a cool-looking toy - probably quite reasonable to anticipate that others will follow.

However once these become available don't expect them to work out of the box with the current incarnation of DSD (or UT for that matter) -
1) USB and driver level issues re: low-level communications with the hardware - although it looks they've designed it to appear as a standard soundcard device. If true that may cut down on the amount of work needed, but there remain questions like issuing frequency-tuning commands etc.
2) The software-IF would need to be narrow band filtered to select the desired channel and then demodulated. DSD and UT today rely on hardware inside the scanner (namely the 455 Kc IF subsystem chip) for these functions. For decoding narrowband (P25 and the like) it's (arguably) overkill to hardware-sample both an I and a Q channel - at their claimed sample rate a single channel (either I or Q) would contain sufficient information. For actual sound cards this means one of the two stereo channels is freed up (for use with a second receiver etc).

Also as these devices get faster (and more wideband) it would be highly reasonable to expect FCC to come down with regs on them

Mototrbo sound

I have a new Mototrbo system here in France . I have (except during voice call) a Mototrbo signal every 22 seconds during one second . Is it synchronisation ? DSD is displaying as voice

thanks for answer

I'm not sure if it's what you meant, but FCC regulations would be addressed toward the permissible levels of unintentional RF radiation that would be permitted from the device.

I'm getting the audio error message and tried everything but no go. I have audio until I try to start DSD, and DSD can't find the audio. it appears it's looking in the wrong place as when I looked there is no /dev/audio but there is /dev/snd any suggestions?

What flavor and version of Linux are you using? As mentioned previously in one of the threads hear, Ubuntu 10.10 will break your sound input! I have personally confirmed this by installing Unbuntu 10.10, only to find out that DSD will NOT see the input. I have also personally confirmed that Ubuntu 9.04 - 10.04 WILL work ok.

alright so has anybody figured out why this will not work on 10.10?

Fo some reason /dev/audio is missing in 10.10 I don't know if this is an issue with DSD or Ubuntu but thats what I am finding.

Just got this message:

I've never actually used that app, but I would definably reconfigure it
to /dev/snd and see if that fixes the issue. If you can't do it with a
configuration app you should be able to with ./configure

So maybe the DSD author can make up a fix for us and see if that takes care of the issue with 10.10.

Fyi, Ubuntu 10.10 went from Asla to Pulse for sound which is why the 10.10 isn't working right. DSD needs a fix for that.

I would like to keep up the momentum on this project by stating that I am still very excited at the possibility of seeing talkgroup decoding. I have a bunch of Mototrbo equipment and decoding the talkgroups would help immensely in interference mitigation. By the way, Mototrbo gets iffy in co-channel setups where you have to share the channel with another user(s). TT

Tampa... yes, agree, TG decoding would be nice. Especially like to see TG for TDMA (X2) if possible. How do we help the author with this though?

I would be happy to help any way I could. I have a truck load of equipment including site and subscriber, capacity plus, connect plus, mixed mode, VHF, UHF, 800/900..etc. This particular need would not have to decode audio, just a visual indicator of slot and talkgroup. I have been fooling around with the Air Tracer program, but have not gotten anywhere with it. TT
