Greetings all,

My university uses an unencrypted MOTOTRBO Capacity Plus radio system that I am trying to monitor/scan using a spare Windows 7 computer with a RTL-SDR unit, SDR#, and DSD+. As far as I can tell, my university's radio system has four frequencies across two channels (Channel 1: Rx 154.49, Tx 159.855; Channel 2: Rx 152.4575, Tx 157.7175) for its several talkgroups. I also have an issued Motorola XPR 6550 radio that I am using to cross-reference the RTL-SDR system with to make sure I set it up correctly.

Depending on the instance, monitoring one of the two Rx frequencies (154.49 or 152.4575) in SDR# will show a "heartbeat" of sorts in the DSD+ console, as a several-line chunk of data every second or so. However, the repeater will inexplicitly "switch" the control channel(?) from one frequency to the other, causing the "heartbeat" to cease in DSD+ until I change the frequency in SDR# to the other one.

My question is: Is it possible for SDR# and/or DSD+ to "follow" the active(?) frequency so that DSD+ is always ready when somebody calls on a talkgroup and I don't have to keep switching from one to the other? I am fairly new to using this computer scanning and decoding equipment so I am not quite sure about how some of it works.

Many thanks in advance!!

It would help to know what version of DSD+ you have. I believe it was 2.8 that added Cap+ tracking.

It is the latest public release. However, there are what are called the "Fast Lane" releases. Fast Lane releases occur more frequently than public releases, and Fast Lane releases contain bug fixes, new features, bleeding edge stuff that one might not see for six months in the public release.

If you have an interest in Fast Lane, you can read the DSDPlus.txt file . Fast Lane should be discussed in there.

If you want to stick with the free version, one option would be to use a scanner add-in for SDR#. Enter the two frequencies into the scanner settings, and SDR# will send to DSD+ the audio for whichever frequency is active. It looks like the frequency pairs are just out of range to be covered by the bandwidth of a single RTL.

Here are two good options:

^ Good idea. I still recommend installing the Russian scanner add-in, though. It is awesome.

He has just one dongle. The frequencies are too far apart to be covered by one RTL.

I opted to buy in to the FastLane releases and glad I did. This has been a great software program. I can't wait to see what goodies we'll get in the next release. That being said, I think the current FastLane version is at least a month old now, maybe 2. And I think the public release is about 7 months old now. So it looks like the releases have been slow. But then again, it's prolly not like they're exactly making some fortune on this anyways.
