As the title suggests, I routinely monitor I Cap+ system. I seldom see private calls, but when I do, they seem odd. I'll see Tgt=19-1449 Ch=13 or similar. None of that matches any known talkgroups, Radio IDs, or channels.

Also, in the channel activity window, I have a list of "extra" channels, (10,13,16,24,29). Normal activity is on channels 3/4 or 5/6. No other frequencies are being used. Trust me, I've scanned for them.

Can anyone explain this strange activity for me. Also, how to program private calls in DSD. Thanks.

Just because you scanned for them doesn't mean you missed them. DMR systems don't have bandplans like P25. I typically search licenses on the fcc that have that the frequencies of that system.

As for private calls, they go over the frequencies that are used in the fcc license/on the system. Most trunk systems have multiple licenses - which is annoying. Sometimes you can search for the FRN and get all the tagged licenses associated with them, but it's not always the case.

Maybe the cap system is up traffic based on private calls , I see the same thing with the cap system here.. never could find any other frequencies, and no extra frequencies licensed for it. Most radio systems use internet as well. Maybe for those its voice over ip.

I'm not even sure if this is possible, but just throwing it out there, is it possible it is a simplex channel that they are going to, or non repeated frequency? Or, maybe something that could be lower power just to cover the facility where those units are at?

Thanks. That's typically how I do it to. Several extra frequencies, but none become active.

Voice over IP - never thought of that. Surely could be that.

Could it be low-power simplex? Maybe. But how would it know to interface with the Cap+ network? If I can't hear these "extra" channels, surely it wouldn't be able to talk to the network, either. I like the VOIP idea.
