DSDPlus vs SDRTrunk. No contest for me monitoring DMR.

Not sure if this will be of any value to anyone, but I see a LOT of posts on forums about not able hear any or just choppy DMR voice audio from DSDPlus. I sat for about two days adjusting DSDPlus running with SDR# both as a plugin and stand alone with a Airspy Mini to try to get it to decode the audio without it sounding unreadable. Can. Not. Virtual cable ok. Signal strength was not a issue and my D878UV was simultaneously decoding the same transmissions 100%. After some internet intel I switched to SDRTrunk, did the very basic set up and as soon as I hit play out came the audio. The only tweek needed to do was to make sure the Airspy's gain was turned up. nothing else. Not trying to decode a trunked system at this point. Maybe SDRTrunk likes my notebook computer. Unknown.

I love SDR radios, SDR# is a miracle, and all the hard work everyone puts into the plug ins, but if you just want to monitor some SDR right out of the box, on your first day in class, maybe try SDRTrunk first.

Thank you everybody in this forum. A huge resource for me.

Are you using DSDPlus Fastlane? If you do have Fastlane, consider using FMPA instead of dealing with SDR# and the virtual audio cable.

Have you actually checked to make sure you had appropriate settings in SDR#? Setting: Filter Audio -- NO. Make sure you aren't filtering audio or you will have a helluva time decoding any type of digital signal through SDR# -> virtual cable -> DSDPlus.

You would be surprised how many have no clue what they are doing.

You can't really compare the two programs when using sdr# with virtual cables.

Sdrtrunk uses the dongle directly and does not use virtual cables. DSDPlus FastLane will use its own supplied tuner that connects directly to DSDPlus.exe without using cables or sdr#.

When using DSDPlus with sdr# and virtual cables, one is using two third party programs which may not be configured properly and will result in poor decodes. While DSDPlus can be used that way without issue, it is not really the recommended way.

I do use DSDPlus with sdr# and cables at times and my decodes are clear. I also use single dongle with my mini and FMPA on both conventional and trunked systems. I am also using the latest FastLane version.

this is hardware they supply with Fastlane?

DSDPlus Fastlane is a software solution. The tuner that @dave3825 is referencing is FMPA.exe. This is the tuner of choice (for Airspy products) and eliminates the need for SDR# and virtual audio cables.
