State police test Dodge Chargers

State police have rolled out some new additions.
The department recently added six Dodge Charger police vehicles to the fleet. It's a test to measure how the cars perform on the road.

The test comes after more than a decade of using Ford Crown Victorias as police cruisers.

Some troopers say the Chargers are faster and more efficient, but some say it'll take some time to see if the new cars meet their needs.

Hello,

I have seen 2 of the MOPARS. One was an unmarked unit on a 41 Stop on Route 1 South, and the other was marked, escorting a Wide and Large Load. The Chargers looked sharp.

I'm not a big fan of the wheels though. The black wheels look kinda goofy. Those LED lightbars are sharp though!

Hello Everyone,

Just some info on the chargers for those that are interested...

DSP decided to be low-budget and as a result all the Chargers are of the V-6 variety. Feedback from the troopers that have used them thus far say that you really can't risk driving past a gas station and that the performance is horrible. The are NOT a decent chase vehicle. Feedback from those that are utilizing the V8 Chargers say that they too can't risk driving past a gas station...but that the performance is AMAZING and that NOTHING on the road (road-legal that is) can outrun it.

Yea, I nearly ran out in front of it back during that protest in Seaford a while back. He was flying through town.

Hello,

Here is a News Journal Story about the new DSP Dodge Chargers. Also, I have seen an unmarked Chevy Impala used for a 41 Stop. Seems LEO's are exploring many options for road use.
