Where did you hear that from?

An email was sent to State Agencies that this was happening. The email was NOT marked as confidential.

But from the looks of it unless officers physically switch over from encryption mode to clear mode it looks like they might possibly be having encryption on all channels as the email stated to manually switch over when using the Command Channel and switch back when not so I'm not sure how this would effect other channels. So this might effectively render the entire system Encrypted.

Shame if it happens

Yeah. I don't think it will effect agencies who don't use Command on a regular basis but DSP definitely.

I mean some might forget and you might only hear half the conversation. I currently hear that some nights mainly weekends after a certain time. Dispatch goes Encrypted and I only hear half the conversation but in the morning it changes back.

So I don't know what will happen with other agencies I just know they said to manually turn on and off encryption so...

I am somewhat torn on this decision because I’m for officer safety and protecting personal information, but at the same time they already have the ability to switch to an encrypted talk group or flip the switch when needed on CMD. Anyhow, I think this leaves Newark and Milford as the only two agencies that can be monitored on either NCC or Kent Simulcast. There’s still a lot to monitor on this system, but this puts a damper on this hobby in Delaware.

Agreed. But at least here in Sussex there's smaller agencies with their own TGs that don't use CMD to talk so those would probably be open channels however like I said I'm not sure how it's going to work. If they forget to flip back or just choose not to it could make everything encrypted.

I know I myself have personally heard Rehoboth PD on their Dispatch Channel doing VIP escorts when they have 2 encrypted Channels they could do that on...

I wonder if this will effect DNR Channels as well, They sometimes monitor / use DSP dispatch channels as well. Does anyone know their reasoning for deciding to go full time ENC?

Since KENTCOM dispatches 16464 - SW DNREC, I am curious if that will be encrypted as well.

As far as it was stated to State Agencies ONLY the Command Channels will be full time encrypted. that is N-CMD, K-CMD, and S-CMD

However if an officer forgets to or deliberately doesn't turn off their encryption after using Command then yes it could be. But the notification was specific to just those channels.

Hope that helps you.

Thats what worries me. If other agencys are forced to have the ENC keys installed to monitor / interop with DSP, then why not use it too on their own talkgroups.

Encryption does not need to be activated to talk to or listen to those channels as the radio decrypts it automatically with the chip installed.

However, As stated DSP is wanting ALL traffic over Command to use encryption. So if an agency is simply monitoring they don't need to have their encryption on.

I get that, I'm wondering if other agencys even have the encryption codes in the radios at this time. If they do not then now they will need loaded. Once they are loaded in the other agency's radios how long until they start using it as well. Maybe they arnt using it now because no one has bothered to load the keys. Now that DSP is forcing it im worried about a snowball effect.
