Hi Paul,

Almost bought one of those DSE units a while back- until I became aware of the fact it was useless for what I wanted- MMR P25 trunked reception.

Unfortunately the WIN96 software does not support it- and the only way to enter multiple base and offset frequencies is to use software. I went with a U.S. imported PRO96 instead and have been very pleased with it.

Good to see you are making good use of your DSE version. Very nice photo's too by the way!
Have the TAS Police switched off Aegis on the EDACS network?

Regards, Commscanaus

Thanks,
Yes I am quite pleased with it and for what I scan it works quite well.
I am working with a company to add support to there software for the DTS-96 which will make it much better.

The Tasmanian police still have Aegis but don't use it for much day to day comms, there is talk of them turning it back on full time for the city areas soon but we will wait and see what happens with it.

For us not in the know, what is the DSE?

The DTS-96 is basically a rebadged/re-packaged bastardised version of the PRO-96, marketed in Australia by Dick Smith Electronics (DSE). It was originally developed to overcome some of the shortcomings in the Bandplan caused by the USA cellphone laws (amongst other things), but it seems they screwed-up a few other things in the process, and none of the standard PRO-96 software will work on it (including updates).

The above is a generalised description of the situation, and I will not entertain any further discussion.

WTF? You make it sound as if it's capable of communicating with spy sats or something.
