DENVER -- A chemical lab on the Denver University campus caught on fire Thursday afternoon.

The fire happened in the Boettcher West Building at 2050 E. Iliff Ave. Authorities said some sort of an interaction with chemicals in the lab may have sparked a fire.

Denver firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire, said Police Chief Phil Champaign with the Denver Police Department.

Authorities said a campus security guard was slightly injured in the fire. Investigators said their biggest concern is that there are a lot of chemicals in the lab that could pose as a potential fire danger. Iliff is closed between Race and University while the investigation continues.

Second fire that day for me. It was pretty much out when we got there, but it had KFBed big time. Luckily no one was in the room or they could have been seriously hurt. The ukn chemicals blew up in the vapor hood and sent glass shards and fire all over the room. Quick thinking and 3 extinguishers later, the fire was out before we got there. Then it was a big waiting game to see if we needed to be deconed
