I'm looking at a mobile installation whereby I'll have two mobiles (VHF/UHF and GMRS) that fit the same bracket.
(Would prefer, though, to just have one radio in car, as 90% will be dual band.)
OK so I think what you are saying is that you'd like to mount a bracket in your vehicle that will fit *either* a dual-band ham radio or a GMRS radio, but not both at the same time, correct?
I cannot speak directly to that request, but here's an alternative, since you mentioned DMR. A radio like the Anytone AT-D578UV or the Alinco DR-MD520T or DR-MD500T is a "Part 90" radio and can be configured to operate in a mode that allows transmission not only on 2m and 70cm (analog and DMR) but also GMRS (and MURS). Note that these radios are NOT Part 95E/95J type accepted and using them on GMRS or MURS is technically in violation of Part 95, although the FCC has made statements that they will not go after someone just because they are using a Part 90 radio on those services.
The other barrier to using the same radio for 2m/70cm and GMRS is the antenna, since you need something that is wide band enough to have an acceptable SWR on both 70cm and GMRS. One option is the Comet CA-2x4SRNMO, which is advertised as 435-465 MHz (which is just below the GMRS repeater transmit frequencies) but has an acceptable SWR for GMRS. It's BIG, though ... 40". Another option would be to have two antennas, and use one for 2m/70cm and the other for GMRS and swap them as needed.
Anytone and Alinco radios *are* made in China (probably in the same factory) but personally I have found them to be good radios, so "CCR" doesn't apply IMHO.
I'm sure others will have differing opinions, but that's one option for you.
