• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Our volunteer fire department is in the middle of a county upgrade, we are currently running on VHF and slowly transitioning trucks over to 800MHZ also, I know there is a way to do it just unsure of what it is called. We want to be able to simulcast on both VHF and 800MHZ, we then need the users who are on VHF to be able to reply and the 800MHZ users be able to hear and vice versa. I have looked at several other post but the ones I have found are over 10 years old. We are just starting down this rabbit hole and understand this is not going to be a cheap project. Literally a bandaid until we can get everyone over to 800.

Simulcasting on VHF and 700/800 isn’t an issue. My county does that, as our pagers are VHF and our radio system is P25 700/800. However, there is a slight delay when hearing the VHF.
You should really be speaking with the company doing the work. They’ll know what’s best. A console patch would certainly be the easiest, though.

If this is an 800MHz trunked system, you should work with whoever is building that system. This might be as easy as a console patch, or may require some gateways to play between the trunking controller/P25 core and your VHF system.

period. full stop.

You can come to the internets for googlings to solve a problem that THE VENDOR should be solving, and then you can also come to the internets for legal advice when this goes tits-up and there is a significant property loss/loss of life due to what "s0mE pErFESsioNAl oN dA' InTERweBz t0!d mE t0 dew". You deal with THE VENDOR doing the work. Not a 3rd party, not a fren of a fren, not someone on RR, Reddit, or Prodigy. THE VENDOR will know the ins and outs of your situation, they have the ability to interact with the system on a level you can't hope to, and they have the liability insurance/bonding to cover things when it goes bad, god forbid it ever does.

Yeah, I left out the part about setting up a link between two different radio systems without the full consent of ALL players will get you into deep doo doo really quick. Don't set up a VHF radio and an 800MHz radio back to back at your station and not tell the system operator. There are right ways to do this, and it absolutely does not involve asking for help at Radio Reference. This is a complex thing that absolutely needs to be done correctly by trained professionals, not ham radio hobbyists.

There are correct ways to do this, and it would involve tying the VHF system into the P25 core. You and/or your department won't be able to do that on your own. It requires the right equipment and programming of the P25 core to do. You won't have access to the core.

This shouldn't be a challenge for the system, this is very often done and probably is already being done in some way, shape or form. Easy solutions are there, they just cost money and will need to involve the right people.

Please, please, please don't let some ham radio operator/hobbyist/youtoobs radio expert tell you that hooking a VHF radio and a 800MHz radio back to back in some sort of half azzed cross band repeater is the right way to do this. It ain't. There are people that will help you with this. Just contact whoever runs the new radio system.
